A few weeks ago I started a Exile On main Street versus - versus.

I will try to place (every) week a versus-versus form Exile on this board (just for fun and to know what you think about the songs)

Part 3

Torn And Frayed versus Shine A Light

Both are harmonical songs, I love Torn And Frayed those loose guitars and pedal and the backing vocals by Keith and Shine A Light nothing wrong either with this song so I can not really make up my mind.

The only different that I can find is that I can turn "Torn And Frayed" on and on, so I say 10 against 9.99



What's you opinion ?

That's a hard one, I would give T&F a slight edge on that one, for no particular reason.

i love shine a light.... voting for that one..

the piano is so cool on it..

SAL - the ultimate forgotten gem,
one of the strongest tunes they ever did... Easy.

i'll take Torn & Frayed for two particular reasons,
one of which is that Shine a Light didn't really come into full bloom until the VL tour -
but yeah, 10 to 9.999 sounds about right to me too.
and if the concert version of Shine a Light counts, then it's 10 & 10 - no contest. :E

TD may be my favourite Stones song of all time. And be careful, you'll end up in my own personal shit heap if you keep knocking Hang Fire!

TD is just good. May be built much upon lyrics,
to which at least I rarely care about much.
But in Shine... I do, cause they form a perfect
harmony with pace, rhythm, and melody...

For what it's worth,I don't like the idea of these threads.They just invite people to put down quality songs.Torn And Frayed & Shine A Light are two completely different types of songs.I can't say one is any better or worse than the other - apples & oranges,both excellent tracks.
I think a good idea might be to compare underrated Stones songs to (maybe somewhat similar) overrated songs from the same era by other artists or perhaps even the other way around.I'm just throwing an idea out there.

Shine A Light is one of my most loved songs on Exile, TAF is beautiful, but doesn´t appeal to me in the same way....

Two practically perfect songs -- no way for me to really choose between the studio versions, but Shine a Light works a little better live, i think...

Torn and Frayed by a mile.

Shine A Light is by far my least favorite song on Exile - maybe my least favorite song from the 4 album peak.

However, I do enjoy the earlier version (Get A Line on You) quite a bit more.

Very difficult one...... but TAF takes the lead by a very small inch.....

TAF is what I like with the album..... great ballad..... much better than f.x. Yesterday or any other stupid Beatles ballad.... or Mull of Kintyre.... if there was any justice in this world TAF would have outsold MOK tenfold.....
