Clapton, Watts & Wyman

I downloaded a video of Clapton playing Layla live, on stage with Charlie, Bill and a crowd of others that looked to include Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and Kenny Jones. It looked to be around late 70's / early 80's. Can anyone tell me exactly what this concert was and any info about it please?

Thanks

I think I've bust a button on my trousers....

sounds like the ARMS tour from 1983 (Action Research for Multiple Sclerosis) - an all star show, inspired by Ronnie Laine who was suffering from the disease (which eventually killed him) aimed at raising funds for research into treatment for MS

The Royal Albert Hall show in September had an official home video release, and the line up then did a US tour later in the year

It was a comcert for (you are right Gazza ARMS it was) I downloaded it, it's really good, what about that Cooper guy with the big metal board (don't know the Englisch name) Cooper also played on Beggars I believe.

Ray Cooper? he was (is?) Elton John's percussionist. Quite a character and an amazing performer.

He plays on the Stones' IORR album, if I remember right

saw one of the ARMS shows in SF - great fun. Wyman & Watts were great supporting Cocker and Clapton.

His name is listed on the inner sleeve of IORR for percussion.

Gazza, as usual, is correct about IORR. Cooper also played on She's the Boss.

I wouldn't have known it was Ray Cooper in the clapton video, but I've been away and googled him and it is. He has also played more recently with The Rhythm Kings. And like you said Gazza, he seems quite a character!

saw him playing in Elton's band in 1986 - as charismatic an entertainer as Elton is, Cooper actually upstaged him. And all he was doing was banging a few cymbals, playing congas, tambourine and a big gong!
