i'd go with bill's 2nd book..the problem with according to the rolling stones is that it has a lot of fiction..jagger and richards are not very good at clearly remembering the facts...ha... if you see what they say about poor brian jones you will see why...go with bill...even jagger called up bill for the stones facts when he was trying to write his own book..
well, my son is 16 now. he like most of the stones-records and Videos. What he really wants is a book about their history. he prefers the "Early" years lets say 1963-1990.
Either The Rolling Stones: An Unauthorized Biography by David Dalton, or The Rolling Stones: An Illustrated Record by Roy Carr...both out of print, but easy to find on Ebay. Let me know if you cant find them, and I will see if I have extras...
I'm 16 myself so I went through a similar sort of thing, and @Rolling With The Stones' is so much better, because you KNOW what Bill says is true with the facts and all that, whereas 'According To...' there is always doubt.
i like david dalton's book too...i also like the 3 books about brian jones... funny, after you get one book on the stones you're hooked and you get them all.. its hard to read just 1 book!!!!!
Bills books are great, but there are some mistakes....its sorta imbedded in the literature....No worries, alll the ones mentioned here are REALLY good....incuding Bill!

Right...so right sweet soul....I wanted you to say that!!!
actually i find Sanchez, Sanford and Davis (Old Gods) to be quite mean-spirited. if the kid digs the Stones he'll probably enjoy a writer who digs them too. Stanley Booth and Chet Flippo really write beautifully, too - but since he loves the early stuff Booth'll be better for him.
Keith, be well - all the way, baby, all the way

okay, i reread what you said your son likes, so i'm revising my prescription: 1962 - 69: True Adventures of the Rolling Stones 1972: STP 1975 - 78 or so: Chet Flippo's On the Road With the Rolling Stones the Dalton book's pretty good too - the First Twenty Years or whatever it's called; and Bill's Rolling With the Stones.
I would go for Stone Alone, great introduction to the characters and Spanish Tony's book, it gives a lot of drama to the same people as in Bill's book. I'd start from there, if your son doesn't grow an interest in the Stones then get him a guitar.
