All I can say is it is my 3rd favorite song of all time!

Wow, T & A is legitimate in his hatred for YGMR - he doesn't even realize that it's called You Got Me RockING

About that Dylan reference. I have always thought that the song is a sort of Dylanisque attempt from Mick, and I think Mick had a specific Dylan song in mind. I mean, Dylan released a year earlier or something (1978) a song called "Senor (Tales of a Yankee Power)" that seems to have a same sort of topic: left wing Latin American politics. Of course, when Jaggerized, it needs to be about a girl... Also, like two years earlier with a song "Some Girls", Jagger is doing here his (drunken, over-interpreted) Dylan vocal mimics. I think the whole song is a mixed attempt to make a parody of Bob Dylan and still be a bit serious. Doesn't success neither way, though.

But a pervert as I am, I happen to like the song smiling smiley

I defy anyone here to claim that someone, somewhere, at some time, has not gotten them rockin'.... SO SHUT UP ABOUT THAT SONG! It is a chronicle of all of our lives.

A couple of brilliant points:

1. I never thought about "Some Girls" as being Dylanesque, but it is.

2. Richard Pryor said that when the Europeans got to America, buffalo sh%t was everywhere.

Set yo' face on fire,
Just like Richard Pryor,
Cocaine

whoa, rooster....who "hated Indians?" I've got Cherokee blood in my veins and damn proud of it.

That son of a biscuit eater Andrew Jackson, former US president, made our people walk the trail of tears, but since then, who hates us?

yeah, good point my friend....I've admired your appreciation for Native Americans in some of your earlier posts, especially since you're European (Dutch?).

Debra on this board also has "Indian" blood in her. I forget from which tribe. Debra?

great story my hen chasing friend!!! Now I understand, even better, your appreciation for Native Americans. Stand tall, my brother. I don't know "Suriname" or the Arawak tribe, but I shall look it up. I'll see if I can find Creek Mary's Blood in the library...party on.

Yes the trail of tears began largely in the NC mountains where I live today. They ended in Oklahoma where my mother grew up. It is a sad chapter in our American history.

Arawaks the first tribe..that met Columbus...they are still in Suriname on the islands..there was genocide. We had a threat about the Vikings..so Columbus wasnt even the first maybe.

Am I the first to point out that the "Indian" of the title is "West Indian" or "Carribean?" A designation which is, of course, the hangover of Columbus's mistaken belief that he had arrived at islands off the coast of Asia and of the Subcontinent.

Another reason why the term "Native American"--while not strictly precise, either--is a step up from earlier designations.

Anyway, NOT everybody does "hate" "Indian Girl."

I've a friend who tends bar at a great joint called The Dockside in Sag Harbor, NY. He makes sure that "Indian Girl" gets a spin at about 10:30--11:00pm every single night. It's a very popular ritual in a saloon full of Stones fans...

Those organic food cafĂȘ's have some great food....
But one time I was going for a coke too, they only had "organic coke". Tasted like puu-wii. Never went back.

I do remember Robert Hilburn and his other fools at The LA Times
very much looking forward to hearing INdian Girl, refered to from teasers
from the record company, as if it was supposed to be some grand political statement. In fact, I do believe he had a few paragraphs of his review of ER
focused about this song which turned out to be a minor track on the LP.
They did the same thing on Undercover regarding She Was Hot and the
"she was black" line. THey thought it was a big deal, when in fact no one cared.
Regarding Dylan's Senor (Tales of Yankee Power), I don;t hear any
left-wing Latin politics in that song. I hear that tune as a bridge between
the songs on Street Legal and Slow Train Coming.
IF you put that bracketed section after any song, it turns anything political.
That's where Dylan's pretty clever. MOre so than Springsteen.
Yellow Submarine (Tales of Yankee Power). Sure it's a political song.
That reminds me of either Tommy Boyce or Bobby HArt trying to pass off
Last Train To Clarksville as an anti-war song because there was
a military base near Clarksville, TN...only they didn't know that until
20 years after they wrote the song!
