Part 2 Exile - Rip This Joint versus Turd On The Run
Posted by: NICOS ()
Date: May 18, 2006 22:48

Last week I started a Exile On main Street versus - versus.

I will try to place every week a versus-versus form Exile on this board (just for fun and to know what you think about the songs)

Part 1

Ventilator blues Versus Soul survivor (you can check it out on the link below)
[iorr.org]

Part 2

Rip This Joint versus Turd On The Run

For me those songs sounds verry alike, although I go for Rip This Joint (a quick rocking song with great sax) but I also like "Turd On The Run" is this country ??

So what's you opinion ?

yeah, I like turd on the run. Its definatley country. It dosnt remind me of Rip this joint, It reminds me of Hip Shake. Both those songs remind me of that ZZ top song "La Grange"

anyone know?

have seen this live with original exiles line-up...

To be honest, first I want to do Rip this joint versus Hip Shake.

after some consideration im REVERSING my desicion. I think that maybe, although I like Rip this joint, its a tremendous song, its a little to "jumpy". turd on the run or hip shake are a little bit cooler actually.

Rip This Joint - a great rock 'n' roll tune with a sax that comes directly from hell!
Give it up Bobby!

I like your thread, Nico! It's much better than "what's the worst.....something". I get furious to see all the great songs listed there.

RTJ is much more of a "song" proper. Probably that is why they played it in concert a good bit. It has those two lethal solos by Bobby and some great lyrics. Wnder that Jagger rememebrs most of them live. My favorite part on RTJ is coming out of the first Sax solo, Mick Taylor does this one guitar line underneath, right before the vox comer back in. It sort of sounds like a car downshifting. Like he is reeling the out-of-control train back in, before the singing commences again.
But it's songs like TOTR that IMO make Exile the incerdible album that it is. There are countless albums that have superb hits and signature tunes on it. But then the filler willd rag them down. On "Exile" the "filler" (or what is widely considered the filler) only makes this album even stronger. TOTR, one can safely assume came out of a jam on that riff, with maybe the uprite Bass plucking away. (Both those numbers use the Uprite). My fave part on Turd is the way the 3rd verse comes in. because it doesn;'t come in on the beat, or after 8 or 16 measures; it just kind of appears. "I boogied in the ballroom..."

"...no longer shall you trudge 'cross my peaceful mind."

Same here...

TOTR has a more bluesy feel to it...RTJ was always a tad fast for me...
