OT: Clapton last night at the Albert Hall

Saw EC last night in London. GREAT SHOW! Had seats on the arena floor, 9 rows from the stage, i scored these the day before from the box office, incredible!

His band are fantastic, derek trucks is incredible, blistering slide player, as well as the 3rd guitarist, doyle bramhall i think his name is. I posted the setlist below, i think it is correct, there may be a slight error in the 3rd-5th songs. Steve Jordan was on drums, great player, he must really smash the shit out of them things, I saw the drum tech change the snare TWICE, as well as the hi-hat.

There wasnt much cream material, no white room, sunshine of your love, but then that was last year for the reunion. I really enjoyed hearing some of the more obscure songs, and songs I had never seen him do live. Layla was the full electric version with the piano part on the end, awesome. After seeing this show i'm definitely glad I went, despite the fact that I'm not a big fan of his last two or three studio albums of original material. Little queen of spades was incredible with amazing guitar solos from all three players, and motherless children was another highlight.

Setlist:

Pretending
So Tired
Got To Get Better In A Little While
Lost And Found
I Shot The Sheriff
Let it Rain
Back Home (acoustic)
I Am Yours (acoustic)
Nobody Knows You When You're Down And Out (acoustic)
Milkcow Blues (EC on electric)
Running On Faith (acoustic)
After Midnight
Little Queen Of Spades
Everybody Oughta Make A Change
Motherless Children
Wonderful Tonight
Layla
Cocaine
Crossroads (Encore, with Robert Cray)

surprised to see Derek Trucks on tour with EC - must be on hiatus from Allman Bros. I'm sure he added alot.

Thanks for the report Mr. Jimmy. I wonder if we will also hear from DaveG who went. I see he played two JJ Cale songs (After Midnight and Cocaine), one of my very favorite musicians from the Tulsa area. (as in Leon Russell, Jamie Oldaker, Carl Radle, etc.)

Not following EC much these days, but seems strange to me that he doesn't play "Tears in Heaven"... Any paticular reason for that?

It was good but the hottest bit was the encore - the ONLY song that got people off their seats and moving! There is no doubting EC's genuine accomplishment but his playing still has v. little thrill factor in it for me. Steve Jordan was great - and he has a v. interesting playing style.

"Anyday" was replaced by "Let it Rain" at this show. He alternates which one he will play.

Antwerp on 31 May is wide open. Tickets are 49 standing or 59 sitting.

that's cheap. Anyday is a great, refreshing changeup that's tailor-made for this lineup with Trucks. Let it Rain is a tired, worn-out Clapton warhorse....

No comparison to the the Cream reunion last year, which blew this show away by a factor of 10:1 for my money. Beast is right, Clapton offers little "thrill" factor. Crossroads with Robert Cray back out was to die for however. And Steve Jordan's drumming on Motherless Children was one of the highlights for me too. Glad I saw him, but that's about it.

All i Gotta say is WOWW!!!!!!

That setlist so smacks of Derek & The Dominoes and 461 Ocean Boulevard...

This may be the Clapton tour that alot of us have been dreaming about for a long time... as close to Derek & the Dominoes as we'll ever get...

I can't even imagine Let it Rain and Got to Get Better in A Little While and Nobody Knows You on the same Clapton bill these days...

CANT WAIT to see this gig !!!!!!

Thanks for the report !!

How can Let it Rain be "tired and worn-out" ??

Let It Rain on Derek & the Dominoes Live at the Fillmore will eternally be the single-greatest track Clapton ever did and as good a guitar piece as you'll ever hear from anybody. Keep in mind too there was only one guitar on that track AND it was a live take!! The whole album is easily one of the Top 5 rock albums of all time.

Just looking at the other songs, Tears in Heaven is for a different setlist. This is much purer blues-rock a-la Derek and the Dominoes

He didn't play Old Love - which is simply one of the best songs I've heard, especially on the Hyde Park DVD (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005OM5L/103-3922810-4794212?v=glance&n=130).

How was the Robert Cray band? I know one of them and hope to get good seats for the concert here in northern California? did you see them open?

It's not the rolling stones, but.... it is rock and roll

Cray was very good, did a mixed bag of stuff from old to new, and at least 3 songs off his debut album Bad Influence. BUT, rather like Clapton, NO interaction with the audience whatsoever, and hence also rather like Clapton, fails to provide the "wow" factor despite being so accomplished. But if you likke Cray and can overlook the lack of showmanship, well worth seeing this Cray/Clapton tour.

Thanks for educating me... just for a second there I thought he had an incredible career.. from the Yardbirds to Cream, to Blind Faith to Derek & the Dominoes, to the Rainbow Concert reunion, to a 20-year solo career...

But now I know ... "there's no roll to his rock"... thanks so much.

Oh, one more thing... you really find Clapton "boring"... so that means you find Derek and the DOminoes Live at the Fillmore to be a boring album ?? I'm just curious... which songs do you find the very most boring off that album ?

Clapton is more the "music factor"... true he's not up there dancing like Mick Jagger.. it's just about the music. you love it or you don't.

he no longer plays tears in heaven or fathers eyes. he said they were written at emotional times to help with greiving and he now longer needs that help so he no longer plays them.
