Their 1st US Album Appreciation Society

Hey Guys and Gals

I'm currently listening to their first US album Englands Newest Hitmakers.

This album is fantastic! If you were to compare it to another album (Stones or other band)which one would you compare to and why?

Also, in the top ten of all Stones albums where would you put it?

Is it comparable to Exile, Beggars or Some Girls or maybe Dirty Work?

don't know about comparing the 1st lp to others or ranking it........but it is a GREAT debut.......total adrenalin and innocence and raw passion......just a sign of great things to come

Sort of hard to compare to the later works. I prefer to compare it to first/early albums by the Stones' contemporaries, like Them, The Animals, The Yardbirds, The Pretty Things, etc.

I like the album alot, even all these decades later.....

GREAT ALBUM BUT NOT AS GOOD AS THE ROLLING STONES NOW....that was a great album..take a peek at that album and you will see what i mean. now has to be near the very top...around #8...the stones were let loose a little bit more than the stones 1st album..the problem with the 1st album was that 1 andrew didn't know what he was doing and 2nd they picked tracks that the stones themselves didn't love...made it more to sell albums and get their name out....rolling stones now the stones are let to shine...brian and keith were great...anyway i think you will see that yes, the stones 1st album is great but rolling stones now is even better....
i even love decembers children...another great album...

Sorry but the 1st one is better IMHO, Their debut has a freshness to it and also a kind of "we're old blues guys just playing some songs" vibe

don't get too hung up on these first 3 US "albums" - they weren't recorded with any notion of the songs belonging together.

Of course they weren't coz the money men didn't realise the potential of the music business! The Stones went into the studio and essentially cut some their live set and tried to recreate that feel. Something that that most bands and producers forget about these days!

right - I was just reacting to your prior post, which seemed to imply that the album was recorded as a unit. it's really mostly random what songs wound up on which US albums. I sort of think of the first 3 as a "unit."

I had this on this weekend, it's been a while. I think I prefer this one to their other earlier bluesie ones. I just like the song choices.

And even though T&A makes a good point about the songs not purposefully fitting together as an album, it still feels cohesive. Almost like the whole thing was recorded in one afternoon. That's one of the things I like about it.

Great energy and enthusiasm too.

the first album's the rock ~ Now is the roll
roaring out of the starting gate with that kind of power & glory & hormones -
yikes, listen to those cats ~*GO!*~
swing on, gentlemen, you are sounding most well if i may say so :E

Keith, be well - all the way, baby, all the way

when the 2nd album was released the stones really started to fly...when the 3nd album was released they passed everyone..rolling stones now hit its groove and the stones never came down...the 3rd album, was truely a rolling stones album..and not just a album of old blues singers..don't get me wrong the 1st was great...love it...but the 3rd the hit a home run....and set up the world for i can't get no.....SATISFACTION!!!!

What you really need is their 1st Album proper!!

Personally I love the freshness and their musical ability. The Artic Monkeys seem to kind of remind me of very early Stones.

I love the 1st album "England's Newest Hitmakers"....handclaps and all! The blueprint for the latter day STones was set right here! Great guitars, blues harp, solid rhythm from Bill/Charlie, and Mick's rubbery vocal chords!

Brings back great memories for me.

Oh Carol!

Just wondering if anybody can help clear up a few facts about the enclosed group-shot poster that came with the first album. Was it both UK and USA? This item's been tops on my 'to be acquired' list for many years. Any idea how many were printed? Ever see one for sale? In good condition, what's it worth?

I prefer the European version of the first album, even though there's no big
difference. But the title "England's newest hitmakers" is a silly title AND
I think that the sleeve looks much better without it.
