Other Live Acts You Attended this Year

I saw last week in washington dc Great Big Sea a canadian band that does great
celtic rock and also plays some good original tunes.

If you play acoustic like me and like to use a capo this celtic rock is great live. They also play an electric set and they rocked. The frontman plays great
rhythm and has alot of energy. One of their original songs Sea Of Cares was played and it was a great and I said wow.

I went to see them with a friend and I surprised how much I liked them.

Last night I saw Leon Russell perform in a little bar in NC. Maybe 200 people were there. He had a really hot band and Leon was of course singing and playing the piano.

He did two Stones covers last night, can anyone guess what they were?

Well, most shows are yet to come, but..

First of all I saw Alvin Youngblood Hart on some festival kind of thing. He's a HUGE black guy that plays just about everything. Reggea tunes, country tunes, rock tunes, blues tunes, and he does it with style. His drummer is freakin' hilarious, goes nuts.

I saw Matt Schofield there too but that was pretty boring, actually.

Hairball,

I saw Buddy Guy last year at the birchmere here in dc and he was great.
His songs were spontaneous and his set list was not planned . He did whatever he felt like which was great. He came into the small crowd and let everyone pluck
a string it was great. He went into his hendrix fusion and was amazing and said
eric clapton ripped off some of his licks along the way.He came here last year
right after he got inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame and had some
great backstage stories to share.

Other than the 4 ABB shows (Fenway, Moncton, Albany, TDB Garden), I saw Fiona Apple at the Orpheum Theater in December. So good. So beautiful.

It's really been a music renaissance for me - music has played a bigger part in my life than ever before.

So it started with The Stones 9/10/05 Soldier Field

Then I saw a band called The Decemberists in october of last year

I saw piano genius Ben Folds that month as well.

This past april I saw a band called Wilco.

If any of you haven't heard of at least The Decemberists and Wilco, they're worth giving a look-see. Also, I hear these "Rolling Stones" are a promising group of up and coming musicians...

I saw Buddy Guy and Robert Cray at the HOB in Atlantic City... it was FANTASTIC

oh and Bon Jovi... it was fun me & my friend took her 12 year old daughter, the little girls love him, he puts on a decent show, a bit FLUFF for my taste but not bad...

Saw Wilco a couple weeks ago, and am psyched to see World Party at the end of the month. Both bands heavily influenced by the Stones. Saw the Stones last fall at Fenway, though it was the least impressive show of the 8 I have seen since '89.

Can't wait for WP!

True, the Fenway shows weren't too good from the standpoint of either the performance or the acoustics (they were the first two shows of the tour, so we might want to give them a break; by comparison, the show in Moncton a week later was much better). But the shows were unforgettable nonetheless: a) The sheer excitement of seeing them at work again gave me a rush of endorphines that lasted about a week; b) The atmosphere - huge stage, Fenway Park, the Boston skyline, a crowd completely possessed, a full moon - was magical and unbelievably inspiring. Gives me goose bumps just to think of it.

...guessing Leon played Jumping Jack Flash...saw him do that several times in 1970,71, 72...Leon was the greatest!

My wife and I won tix to see Motley Crue...I didnt know a single song having never been a "metal" fan but the crowd was crazy...on their feet and singing every song. If you like VERY heavy electric guitar and drum oriented music, Motley Crue is for you!

Hey Nico, Wild Horses was the first of the two, but the second one was not Honky Tonk Women ....I'll give you a hint, the second Stones cover was the same one Leon played at The Concert For Bangladesh in Madison Square Garden.

Bingo....thor guessed it....thanks for playing along.

and by the way, thor, the first time I saw Leon was in 1976 when he shared the stage with his then wife, Mary McCreary while promoting that damn "Wedding Album"....I would have loved to have seen him in the early 70's as you did.

In the first post I did take JJF but I changed it for Wild H.. glad I did.

I remeber Leon most of his work with Joe Cocker, Mad Dogs and Englisch Man, can't remember he had a hit in the Netherlands, maybe one altough I can't recall it.

....and Nico guessed it.

Nico, man, like an idiot I only went to the show with a belly full of chicken wings and beer and a pocket full of money. Somehow, I forgot the tape recorder and camera. I'll remember the next time.

Raoul, that's what I remember too. Being right at the edge of the B Stage, looking up and having Mick Jagger right in front of me and behind his head, the Prudential Tower. That was a surreal moment, like what the hell is he doing here!

Reptile: did Alvin play Sway when you saw him? I saw him in a small club in January...he ripped through an awesome version of it! I suggest any Stones fan to check him out on tour.

I wasn't that close (I could only get grandstand seats) but for once I wasn't too disappointed to see the show from far away and enjoy a wider perspective. By the way, do you live around here too?
