My fave version of Many Rivers to Cross is by Burdon and the reunited Animals on the album "Before We Were So Rudely Interrupted..."

For me Burdon and Cocker dont need to me measured to each other.
Love them both! And Cliff!

i'm not measuring Burdon/Cocker - just thought Burdon's take on the Cliff song was more sincere and heartfelt....

Harry Nilsson did "Many Rivers.." on his John Lennon produced "Pussy Cats" lp, that ended with some primal screaming that recalled "Mother" on "John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band."

John Sebastian recorded "Sitting in Limbo" on his 1974 "Tarzana Kid" album. That one breaks my heart, because career-wise, he really was sitting in limbo then.

The Neville Brothers did a version of Sitting in Limbo that is on one of Keith favorite albums, I think it's named Fire on the Bayou. It's not a bad vesion but not as good as the original funny how it usually turns out that way...)

The rest of The Harder They Come soundtrack is fantastic...one of my 10 desert island discs...

The Harder They Come is one of the albums I bought after reading threads like this. Great album! Must be one of the coolest things about IORR: picking up all those great albums from you guys!

I would like to recommend a couple of classic reggae records which everyone should buy after the have Harder They Come.

Culture - Two Sevens Clash
Doctor Alimantado - Best Dressed Chicken In Town
Bob Marley - African Herbsman
Burning Spear - Marcus Garvey
Congos - Heart of the Congos

If you buy these you will be doing a lot for you musical spirit/education, 70's Jamaican music is some of the best ever made IMHO

Jimmy´s "Sooner Or Later" should be covered by the Stones.

In college there was a guy who was playing Linton Kwesi Johnson (sp?) all the time. Forgot all about him, but may as well get one of his records.

One of my friends was totally possessed with Linton while he was 17-18.
As he was with Clash & Pistols. Still this very day he plays all of them
more or less daily. So do I.
