Chuck really is a class act - I sent him a message via his website telling him that I felt that the Stones were ignoring their history as fantastic baladeers, and he responded promptly. The response, however, was disheartening; he said, (as I suspected), that Mick is squeamish about doing more than one ballad because he wants to keep the "energy level high." But what really troubled me is the following: he said that SOL is almost definitely going to be in the set-list in Europe.
I don't really want to start another thread bashing SOL, (ok, i kind of want to) but I just wanted to let you all know that Europe is indeed SOL as far as ballads are concerned: Shit Out of Luck!

Mick really has developed into a chicken-shit, for some reason.
Afraid of doing more than one ballad. Afraid of doing too many new songs. Afraid of playing songs that arent warhorses and feeling he has to apologise to audiences for playing an 'obscurity' from 'Sticky Fingers' - an album he feels hardly any Stones fan would know.
Funny that he never seemed to have this fear for the first 40 years of his career. Quite bizarre, not to mention disheartening.
I wonder what Keith will do during that song? I can't imagine him doing a grand solo, or some cool licks, on that one. Perhaps he'll be in the toilet too.
Check the Toronto rehearsals version available thru RS.com, Keith does play some cool licks (typical Keith but definitely cool for me) at the end of the song !
Wasn't SOL n°1 in Spain last year ?
That could be a clue for the opening night setlist...
Perhaps they'll surprise all you guys in Europe by putting a new spin on SOL. I know it's a typical rock ballad, most likely a leftover from "Alfie," but it has its moments. Maybe if it hadn't been used on those soap operas, and maybe if it was a little more low-key we'd all like it. It's an alright song - I guess if I was really depressed or had just gotten dumped I'd listen to it.
So they'll play yet another new song from ABB. Great news if ya ask me. First Motley Crue will open with their kick-ass show and the next treat will be SOL. I looovez it real mucho. MEZ

but now we've got TWO pissbreak songs - unless you're over 60, you don't really need that!
funny how there are so many comments on sol,i think its a remarkable song, even if you don't like the song,it is micks crowning vocal performance"he's nothing short of stunning on vocals".
I love Streets of Love. I hope that they come somewhere near me in the USA and play it this fall. I dunno, maybe it's b/c I'm 22 and I'm more interested in the newer stuff over the music that came out before i was born.
guyz sorry but it was obvious they were gonna play it right here in europe...it has been a single, most people know it more than street fighting man...and it'a actually a good song! so no surprise...woz the problem? One new song played live...this is good!

this is true .

Streets Of Love is a solid song. It has a nice guitar solo by Keith. Really "modern". I didn't expect to hear that. They sound like a modern pop band in their 20's. It's awesome!

No, Mick only playes the acoustic(http://timeisonourside.com/SOStreetsOf.html)
But seriously, I think it's just something else. Some variety is nice..
I wouldnt mind hearing SOL live. I dislike the studio version, and maybe it would come across better live. It's usually nice to hear songs that dont have an impressive studio version live, and since this is the case with SOL imo, maybe it will be an improvement live. I hope they try LMDS and LIND too, though, eventually.

Yeah, like Out Of Control. Studio version is BORING. But live, it's awesome. You never know.

Yes. And maybe Mick is gonna change his mind about some of those lyrics, and leave them out, LOL-- a girl can dream!
