OT: Stolen Car

Just listening to this Springsteen song.

Goddamn.

Even with the lousy synth strings at the end, it's transcendant.

Sometimes, the Boss really comes through.

Sometimes, not so much.

That's a good one. I also like State Trooper, which is in the same vein.

Yeah - I enjoy all of Nebraska.

I like when Springsteen sings about desperate, poor people.

He should have written a song about me in Feb. when I spent all my money on Stones tickets and travel.

But this song was definitely written for me, as my car (Voodoo) in fact was stolen during a Stones show in Prague!

Its very good, but the original version thats on "Tracks" is far better.

Really? I definitely like the River version better.

What is it about the Tracks version that you prefer?

Yeah, great song and I prefer too the "Tracks" version.
He also played it in 2005, a great tour.

better storyline, better lyrics and Federici's accordion is beautiful

The accordian does lend an abandoned boardwalk feel - which is nice.

Always liked when he set that mood - like Sandy or Wild Billy's Circus Story.

Gazza, were you able to get Dublin tickets for Springsteen?

The Springsteen tour kicks off next Thursday with the first of 4 rehearsal shows in Asbury Park.

Talking of Springsteen, I watched the DVD from Toronto 1984 yesterday.
I think he was really marvellous that year, before falling over the cliff in 1985.

ues Halup, I did - thanks for asking

Ticketmaster Ireland was as impossible as ever but (same as last year) a friend of mine who is a journalist managed to secure tickets through his prress contacts. Dublin was actually a harder ticket than London or Manchester

Otherwise it was e-bay or ticket touts! Look forward to it

Heres some video footage of Bruce recording "Pay me my money down" and "Erie Canal" if you havent seen it yet. Presumably this is from the DVD that will be released with the new album.

Yeah, the Tracks version is the best one,far better than the version which is on The River.

Bruce might be the best songwritter of all time if we forget about Dylan for a minute.

I always think of The River as Bruce's Exile On Main Street. Still my favorite Springsteen album.

Yeah The River is definitely awesome and it would have been even better had Bruce included that version of Stolen Car which appeared on Tracks.

The River is just full of so many amazing songs,it's only slightly worse than Exile.

Check out the version on the Stokholm 81 bootleg, which is preceded by a brief introduction in which Bruce recounts a sermon given by a minister at a wedding that he had attended.

Stirring stuff indeed.

That could explain why we haven't seen Andy Snitzer (the horn player) since around that same time.
