Listened to this for the first tinme in ages. I remember hearing it live at Shepherd Bush in 1999. I wish they would resurrect this and put some oooomph into it, it could make for a fantastic raunchy stadium rocker. Anyone else think so ?

They did resurrect it for the Orpheum Theatre show in 2002.

Agree to 95%... A little too much 'late80s-groove' in the beat
for my taste; you know Allie McBeal-type of white polished uptight groove...

If they either slowed it down or did speed it up, just a tiny bit.
I'd prefer a slower pace (my 50c).

Do you happen to know, Erik, about the speed/pace/rhythm at Orpheum: was it like in studio; have you heard it?

I have heard it. Significant horn parts.

Would like to hear it in the set again. This song has such a classic Stones/blues feel to it. Its interesting hear them work this song into shape during the Voodoo sessions.

I'm not sure if they were working on this song or on "Don't Stop", probably the latter, but the Stones are in the studio and Jagger keep stalking about this "slinky, sexy" feel that he wants. That is all I hear when I hear BNC. In Stones terms it's lame, milktoast. Lukewarm. It's kind of an intangible, but IMO "melody" has that good slinky feel. Or "Honey what's wrong". Or "i'm gonna drive". BNC would benefit from different recording technique, new hornchart, get rid of that terrible Wah Wah and throw some real growls in there. In oher words: no Don Was/Jagger.

"...no longer shall you trudge 'cross my peaceful mind."

always a fave of mine - it's got everything I want in a Stones song. It was killer at the Boston Orpheum show - still the last time we've seen it in the set....

I like the slinky feel and the lyrics. No deep meaning, just a good, fun song.

I think this song belongs in Exhibit A of Mick trying too hard to resurrect the "Dirty" stones image. The metaphon of a woman being a car is so overdone, and so obvious...this song is a throw away to me.

My favourite version is from Voodoo Brew.

it's a blooze song for crissakes, Sharks - the sex metaphor exists in just about ALL blooze tunes....

Ok, fine. But the whole raunch/faux spontaneity of it ("All right!" in the background) is so contrived. It's not even clever.

I just dislike this song because I feel like it's, again, a contrived effort by (primarily) Mick to demonstrate he's still some sort of controversial sex-symbol. Just like "Might as Well Get Juiced", in addition to having an absurd intro, is somehow aimed to say "Yea, I still get drunk. I'm not OLD!"

My opinion on Voodoo Lounge is that it could have been a much better album by cutting a lot of the last half. BNC, Suck on the Jugular, New Faces, Moon is Up, Sweethearts Together....get rid of those and it's a nice, tight, retro sounding 40 minute album.

to each his own, i guess. i agree that VLis bloated, but the songs you mention are the ones that "make it" for me....I just think songs like BNC are ones we should be hearing more, not less...

Sorry, Sharks, but this song is better than "Sparks" with its ridiculous line "Sharks Will Cry".

maybe thats the one I'm thinkin of too, which is really good. Features keith 'shadowing' Mick's lead vocal. Great version, and better than the released take.

Hi, I gotta agree with you on this one. I felt right away that the symbolism was just far too obvious to be clever. And believe me, I am not one who looks for deep meaning in their songs, half the time I know the words but don't really think about the meaning as a whole. But this one is sort of in your face that it's not about a car that you can't help but decipher the lyrics.

I have the same feeling when he sings the Rooster/Cock thing in, OMG, I just totally forgot the name of that damn song! What does that say (not about me, about the song). Ok a minute has gone by, and I still can't think of the damn chorus of that thing, that is really sad. Well it took me 90 seconds, but now I remember, whew! that was a close one.

Anyway, same feel, just obvious, I hate anything obvious, people included. I don't hate either song for that matter even though I just dumped all over it.

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.

HAHAHA - NOPE! I knew it was going to go over well, but it's my honest opinion. I hardly ever say anything bad about them, doesn't it make you respect me a little more that I'm not a complete kiss ass. Only a 98% kiss ass!

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.
