Great lists everyone.

One thing I have to ask about is the frequency that Richard Thompson appears on people's lists.

I have to admit, I don't know anything about this guy or his music. I actually met him once though, he was opening for Crowded House back in 91/92? He was at the after party and came over to talk to us. I didn't know who he was, but my boss was pretty impressed.

So what's the deal, is he just good live? Do you guys listen to his records? Where should I start?

Richard Thompson is a great artist to listen to when you really feel like getting depressed...and I mean that with the utmost of respect.

I once saw a one-armed blues man playin' slide with his hook.
That was in Northern, at least at that time, sleazy part; of
Bruxelles. Another time a genetleman played soul-bleedin'
blues on the street near Les Halles, Paris.
Both these dudes were black & probably Americans.
Both one of the best live moments I've lived thru.

BB - I had a similar experience on the NYC subway.
I was on my way to work, and I was super late, as usual, and hot, and therefore bitchy. I get to the platform, and this guy was sitting there just playing this amazing slide guitar. No signing, just guitar. He was in his own little world, very unobtrusive. It calmed me right down. When the train finally arrived, I skipped it, knowing I was going to get my ass kicked at work. But it was worth it. He was great, and sometimes you just have to go with those moments when they are given to you.

there was a street musician (busker) who played the Financial District in SF for years - solo bluesman - played drums, slide guitar, harp all at the same time. After a few years he hooked up with a pretty good female bass player/singer and they made quite the pair. Anyway, I always admired the hell out of this guy - he was absolutely amazing....

Bro,

There used to be a band in Atlanta called the Out-A-Hand band. The bass player had a pick attached to his prostetic (fake arm). They were pretty good and he was amazing to watch. Cool name, too.

They played at the same bar as The Swinging Richards, Tinsley Ellis and the Heartfixers, The Ultimates (great blues w/horns band), and a pretty decent group called the Georgia Satellites!

Tinsley/Heartfixers album "Cool on It" is one of my alltime faves - he's never put out anything since that's rivaled that, IMO. Also boasts one of the all-time album covers....

Great cover and good music. He's (Tinsley) got a "live" CD out now that is really good. A real smokin' live act.

I have gone to 10-15 shows a year for the past 30 years. I could not begin to list them all. Some particularly memorable ones:

Fleetwood Mac on the Rumours tour (Stevie was beautiful).
The Eagles on the Hotel California tour (Loved the guitars-been overplayed since).
Rod and the Faces on their last tour (drunken ragged mess, and GREAT).
The Jacksons from Michael's Off the Wall era (before the surgeries).
The Beach Boys at Madison Square Garden 1976 (I was 16, their last great period before becoming an oldies band)
Sly and the Family Stone (showed up late, played 50 minutes)
The Police, right after Regatta de Blanc (very raw, very young)
REM at a Harvard cafeteria in Cambridge, MA in 1982 (same)
Talking Heads Stop Making Sense Tour in Providence, RI (the best "show" I've seen)
Bruce on his Born in the USA tour (a great live act at the peak)
Dylan/Petty at the LA Forum (seen Dylan a few times, I enjoyed this the most)
Hole at a small club in Tokyo (w/REM members standing at the bar).
Pearl Jam on the Vitology tour (and they are still fantastic, by the way)
The Strokes and Radiohead closing the Summersonic festival in Chiba Japan
U2 and Paul McCartney opening Live 8 at Hyde Park

and every one of the 20+ Stones shows I have seen

Yeah Bro, those blind spots.
I bet I've still forgotten some concerts I went to.
I even left out bands I saw at festivals.
But its a good thing to write 'em down - while you're doing that, your memory digs out some half forgotten ones.
Do try it.
