The Four Tops is actually the first group that I really got into. The first time I heard Bernadette, I was BLOWN away. Same with Same Old Song. I still prefer their songs to the Temptations. But I like both groups.

Reach Out I'll Be There.....One of the all time greatest songs ever...CLASSIC!!

Remember reading a Ronnie interview where he said the Stones often loosen up in the studio with Loving You Is Sweeter Than Ever...

Re: Four Tops

Yeah forgot about Geils version....ya wouldn't think sweet Smokey could pen these lyrics....

Some fellas look at the eyes
Some fellas look at the nose
Some fellas look at the size
Some fellas look at the clothes
I don't care if her eyes are red
I don't care if her nose is long
I don't care if she's underfed
I don't care if her clothes are worn
First I look at the purse!
Some fellas like the smiles they wear
Some fellas like the legs that's all
Some fellas like the style of their hair
Want their waist to be small.
I don't care if their legs are thin
I don't care if their teeth are big
I don't care if their hair's a wig
Why waste time lookin' at the waistline?
First I look at the purse!
A woman can be fat as can be,
kisses sweet as honey
But that don't mean a thing to me
If you ain't got no money
If the purse is fat....that's where it's at.
Some fellas like the way they walk
The way they swing and sway
Some fellas like the way they talk
Dig the things they say.
I don't care if they wobble like a...
or talk with a lisp
I still think I'm a good lover
if the dollar bills are crisp
First I look at the purse!
First I look at the purse!
First I look at the purse!
First I look at the purse!
I don't care if you got yourself a wrap
all I want is your pretty green cash
Bought me a suit, bought me a car
Want me to look like a hollywood star
Money, (Money!) I want money (Money!)
Baby, ain't no "why", baby (Money!)
I need money!
First I look at the purse!
First I look at the purse!
First I look at the purse!
First I look at the purse

if God can sing, he would probably sound like Levi Stubbs

A band that deserves a lot of respect and is about the only one who can rival the Stones for longevity (43 years with the same four man line up until Laurence Payton died in 1997)

Absolutely terrific band.
The opening sequence of 'Reach out i'll be their is still brilliant.
Motown sound in 1964 was almost un-stoppable.

I highly recommend the movie "standing in the shadows of Motown". its about the band who played for all of mo towns groups. they were called the Funk Brothers.

One of the greatest recordings of all time is by the Four Tops. That record is the only reason I make sure to always have a turntable. The record has still not been released on CD. And the vinyl goes for a bunch on ebay. It is a live recording from the 60's at the Roostertail. Called "Live" , Four Tops. They do a version of "I left my heart in San Francisco" and I swear, everytime I hear those four part harmonies on that song I see God! It has got to be the most beautiful thing I have ever heard. They also do a killer rendition of "Ask The Lonely" where Levi tears it up. Of course they do all the other hits too but it is those two cuts that IMO are priceless. I wish they would put it on CD. Anyone has the cvhance to get the record, get it.

"...no longer shall you trudge 'cross my peaceful mind."
