Here's some info about the picture from www.pro.corbis.com:
Aerial View of Packed JFK Stadium Original caption: 7/13/1985-Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-The Live Aid Concert at JFK Stadium. An aerial view displays the packed stadium in its entirety.
great shots. 1978 was the first time I saw them. New Jersey. Still my favorite show and I've seen them on every tour since then (except this one). This was the final tour of the Stones being freaks.
Mick still wore a lot of make up and crazy clothes. Keith still looked near death, Woody sill looked like a chick from Los Angelos.
The aerial view of JFK reminds me of the first time I saw the Stones live. It was in 1978 at Soldier Field in Chicago and Soldier Field was like JFK stadium in that it was a large bowl, no tiers. It was general admission, an afternoon show, and 68 and sunny (though with 75,000 people it felt more like 85). We got there "late" (10:30 in the morning) so my seats were about as far away as one could be from the stage. Before the Stones came on I journeyed down to the side sections right at the stage, looked out toward the crowd, and saw this huge mass of people from the floor all the way up to the top seats...no aisles, nothing...just a huge mass of people. I was only 16 and it kind of freaked me out...I thought what guts to play in front of all of those people...the pressure...and ow cool that 5 guys could make that happen...
i really think that mick and keith were really COOL in '78! i mean, you can't figure out that those pix are taken 28 years ago, they seems a new band! They look actual, don't they?
Thanks for the photos - this tour really is a bit of an egnima - why oh why didn't we get to see this in Europe / UK in 1979 - up until then the touring "circle" was like that.
I can see similarites between this tour and the Tattoo You shows which thankfully we got to see however this (1978) really became the precurssur to the recent tours where theatres and arenas were included.
I know the band was in a bit of tumoil around the time of this tour however if they had toured the following it really would shut up the Punk brigade - I had a pretty bad time keeping the faith at that time - still time has told eh?
This sums up The Stones - Keith looks very humbled (to say the least) and the guy in the background looking at The Great Man AND the look of love in The Mans' eyes!

theyre from Anaheim. Mick got a bit pissed off at having to dodge a couple of shoes that he sarcastically invited the crowd to throw all their bloody shoes on and get it over with. Cue a slight pause for a few seconds while hundreds removed their footwear and then the stage was bombarded with them. A lot of people went home that night with one shoe!
The Linda Ronstadt pics are from Tucson.
These are a fantastic collection of photos. Thanks to Aucoin and everyone else for sharing them.
The best thread I've seen for months. Keep the photos coming. FWIT: THis tour was when wireless guitars was in its infancy. There's one photo where Ron has his wireless in place, but Keith (with a Strat) has a regular cord. Sometimes they worked and sometimes they didn't. I have one photo of Jagger with his Strat and the cord was monsterous in length. NADY was the system used on this and '81 plus Neil Young's Rust Never Sleeps tour. Hindsight being what it is, the Stones took an big chance with this tour. I didn't appreciate for a few years after I saw it. I was expecting Love You Live mixed in with a few Some Girls songs. INstead, it was totally opposite. A Chuck Berry opener that 90% of the audience probably never heard of or couldn't name? 8 songs in a row from a new album? Sweet Little 16? Imagine U2 opening with Let It Rock. NOw that would be funny, actually.
