Tatters, you say: "Unfortunately, nothing else on the album was anywhere near as strong as the opener". In fact the album you're talking about is 'shpritz'. I do not agree with you that the rest of the album is inferior to "saturday night". The album is a set of great piano r'n roll tracks, ok a few minor tracks, but I can live with that.

It's been years since I've owned a copy of it, but that's the way I remember it. I LOVED "Saturdaynight" (it reached #35 on the US singles chart) and rushed out to buy the LP on the strength of it. I remember being disappointed. It wasn't BAD, it just wasn't as great as I'd hoped. I'll have to find another copy and give it a second chance. I'll tell you this: In 1979 I was 20 years old and at the absoulute peak of my interest in the Rolling Stones. Loved Some Girls, loved the New Barbarians tour, and COULD NOT WAIT for some new Stones music. "Saturdaynight" gave me the fix of new "Stones" music I desperately needed at the time.

If it wasn't for Herman (Brood) "The Munster's" would have been just a so so TV show - Herman (and Lily and Grandpa) made the show, he was the greatest!!! R.I.P

As far as GOLDEN EARRING, "To The Hilt" was a kick ass album - Their best !!!.

the munsters with herman and lilly...
i think herman brood did have a daughter named lilly!
when i heard about his suicide my interest arose again -
knew his stuff from the 70s/80s - and was flashed.
i bought a greatest-hits double-cd on ebay and there's
some real good stuff on it.
golden earring are great too, i like the voice of the singer.
sadly in germany are no cds of them available at the moment.
and my holiday-budget here in the states i already spent on
dvds that do not exist or not uncut in germany.
so i must take a little trip to holland in a while i think...

Their 70's hit Sweet Silver Annie (which was released around the time the Stones released Angie) was one of my favourite tunes when it came out... I could not admit it at the time, though ! Nearly everybody else I knew were into Prog or Jazz Rock back then, for those people even the Stones were lightweight commercial stuff... but BZN and Sweet Silver Annie? No, that would have went too far for them!

Well, retired_dog, you've become a brave man in the past 30 years! They're planning a farewell tour for this year, so iy you want to hear Sweet Silver Annie live, it will be your last chance. No Sweet Silver Annie Schilder (singer at the time) though... She's not invited!

I think you confuse him with Rene van Barneveld (an awesome player, BTW), who I think first played with UDS and later with FF.

any hard-core brood-fan out there?
are there any activties planned in amsterdam?
a concert in the paradiso celebrating his music would be great.

Sounds tempting, Edward! I even might consider seeing them, just for the fun of it! By the way, most of those old Prog and Jazz Rock freaks I mentioned now admit that they have learned to love, like or at least respect the Stones over the years. So I have no problem now to admit that I loved Sweet Silver Annie back then (and in fact, I still do)!

Not many songs appear twice on number one in the US Shocking Blue with Venus in 69 and Bananarama somewhere in the 80ties.

What about the smasing hit from Vader Abaram met de Smurfen and The vogeltjesdans from the Electonica's I believe sold more then 20 mil. records
