can't sing and is the worst live performer I have ever seen. He should have never performed his own songs

Ket, what's up your ass today? Dylan sucks? And pray tell, who's songs should he perform? That is the craziest thing I have ever heard.

Have you ever listened to Blood on the Tracks? How about Highway 61 Revisited? How about Blonde on Blonde?

I'm a big Dylan fan. Not as big as some, I've only seen him twice. I have all his music though - the commercially released stuff anyway, not all the boots. Overall I think he's one of the all-time greats. However, ...

I wouldn't say he can't sing, but certainly on many songs he is not exactly the most accomplished singer in the world. Sometimes I find that to be part of his charm and sometimes I find it annoying.

As far as live, as I said I've only seen him twice, years ago. I saw him in '90 and he was great and then in '92 and I thought he sucked - he seemed disinterested and I could not understand one word he sang. Most people I know have had a similar experience - one time he's great, the next time not so much. But I don't know anybody who has seen him more than probably half a dozen times.

Is he consistently good these days or does he still have his ups and downs? Hell, maybe he was good in '92 when I saw him and I wasn't smart enough to know it at the time.

its an acquired taste, but I dont think its a case of being 'disinterested'. Its just a different and more introspective style of performing than the likes of a Jagger or Springsteen. If youre 'disinterested' , you dont spend 6 months of the year on the road (every year for the last 20 years or so), change your setlists around night after night and constantly rearrange the songs year after year. The show constantly evolves from one year to the next. Go and see it this year then go again next year and you'll hear a very different show.

When he played 5 London shows last November, he played 50 different songs over the five nights. On one of the nights he played 3 world premieres in the same show. I saw 4 shows in 8 days (2 London then 2 Dublin). At the Dublin shows, I think he duplicated 2-3 songs from the night before and I still heard several songs that I hadnt heard in London.

But I don't know anybody who has
> seen him more than probably half a dozen times.

I've seen him about 30 times I think. Quite a few on here would have seen more than that. The last shows I saw that I thought were below par were in 1993. I've seen him every year since apart from 94, 97 and 99.

'92 wasnt a great year, although not as bad as '91 which was the utter nadir.. Since about 1994-95, the shows have been of a more consistent level. His band is also very good.

just a little experiment, I honestly love Dylan, I just wanted to see if I got flamed for starting an asinine post about a great artist, the reason being is that I have noticed a few threads started by some trolls here for the most part just thrash the stones on a stones fans web site yet if you flame them all of a sudden many people jump to there rescue and brand being intolerent of their "opinions".

Hi Ket,

If you wanted to know if we are hypocrites, all you had to do was ask.

Speaking for myself, the answer is yes.

I'm glad to know it wasn't just me thinking '92 wasn't very good. I'll have to make an effort to see him the next time he comes my way. It's funny, someone who saw the Stones in '94 and then didn't see them again until now probably wouldn't even notice that much of a difference in the setlist, while in that period Dylan has changed his setlist like 500 times.

look, maybe it was a silly idea but come on! I just cannot belive some of the posts here lately, I really don't have a problem with people being critical of an album/song/show but these "Stones just suck and should retire" on a stones fans site is just trolling yet so many people will defend these posts. Yet if you do the same to another great artist you get flamed. It just strikes me as being really odd.

he was much more hit and miss in the early 90s' - but I have plenty of shows where he was great during the aforementioned tours/years. It's been consistently good if not great since oh, about '94....

Bob Dylan is allright. I don't really like most of what he does but he's got some songs I really enjoy like Hurricane.

i've seen Bob 113 times since 1978.my favourite years are 1966 and 1965,IMHO the best years of the so called Never Ending Tour (from 1988 to date) are 1988,1995 and 2000.

I love Bob Dylan's studio recordings but I hate to admit his live performances (in my opinion) are not good. I often can't tell what song he is singing. My last Dylan concert was awful, at one point I turned to my wife and said "I think I like this song, but I can't tell."

Oh well, maybe my experience was just a bad one.

I don't like a Bob Dylan insult, just because somebody wanted to "check out the reactions".
