Yeah you're right T&A, but @#$%& I don't care, the most important is that they still play great music. Don't miss them. As long it's not only nostalgia, it's OK with me..
Because classical and band music are a different genre. A lot of that music is meant to be played by different orchestras and bands. Its kind of generic to musicians.
Rock is unto itself. It is not only identified by its music and lyrics but by the musicians who created it. Hence when someone else does a song by someone else it is called a cover version.
I ask again: Would you say that about the Stones if only Charlie were playing? That he is the spirit of the band that has evolved?
It seems more like it would be Bill & Keith in one person remainin'. I understand T&A:s point of view... For sure I would go & check out the New Doors (whatever they call themselves) even if I miss Jimbo. All ya oool' fans, didnt ya go & see Winos when ya could?
It's better to support them old blues man than some other piece of crap, isnt it?

No. Wrong-o. The fans of the Duke Orchestra, for instance, were intimately familiar with all the various personalities that shaped and graced his band over the years. It's not at all different than, say, Canned Heat or the Rolling Stones.

Again, wrong. The Ellingtons and Dorseys and Goodmans were associated with songs they wrote. Other bands would cover some of them too and it was no different than it is today.

If it had evolved much like Canned Heat had - absolutely. If Keith, Mick and Ronnie dropped dead tomorrow and Charlier hired a bunch of capable musicians to support him and call it the Stones, of course not. But, that's too theoretical. The Stones have obviously evolved differently than CH, so that's where it actually becomes an apples/organges thing.
When Beethoven wrote a symphony, it was meant to be played by an orchestra or maybe a individual pianist, violinist, etc...
When Puccini composed an opera, it was timeless for all to perform and enjoy.
These are universal pieces that are conducted and performed all over the world by an unlimited variety of musician and performers. But it is recognized as the "performing the Puccini Opera" or "performing Beethoven Symphony No.9"
Rock music is different, it is a developed by group of musicians and eventually becomes a song and in some cases a legacy, a classic, and is usually performed live by that band of individuals throughout their career. It is not inherited by a second generation of members who assume the name of the group and try to pawn it off as their creations. Music is quite clear in referencing that as a cover version. It may even sound better than the ORIGINAL. But to call yourself a band to which you have no real connection is fraud to the listener and fans.
Why do you think these bands never advertise their lineup? Because they know people will hesitate to see them.
Hey man, just my opinion, if you are convinced you are seeing Canned Heat I hope you go and have a great time. I'm sure they sound good and put on a good show.
