Yeah sometimes.

I'll see them 2 times next month. Singer/guitarist/harmo Robert Lucas is a great talent.

Some samples with Lucas on vocals :

"Let's work together" (2002)

"Wait & See" (Fats Domino song) (1999)

"Iron Horse" (1997)

"one kind favor" (1997)

Great, Wisertime... Anymore to say on the current Heat?
Should I pack my stuff & go to Norway in August?

Hey Bro have ya ever heard Henry Thomas?....Canned Heat took his song Bull Doze Blues from 1928 and turned it into Going Up The Country. Taj Mahal and Dylan have also covered Henry Thomas songs.

No but thanks for the info; Wll, Canned Heat often did those kinds
of things and maybe they are one of those whitie band nickin' black bros music.
Still it also pulls attention to the originals! great remark,
alas I didnt know that connection, just a loosely hobo for a Heat fan...

All I have to say is that I love this guy on vocals.

Saw the band about 6 times since 1996.
-96/97 was AWESOME (with Lucas/Vestine/Junior Watson) : best blues shows I've seen. One of their best line-up.

-99 saw them with Harvey Mandel, good !

-2002/04 : 3 new members in the band !! (new singer/guitarist/harmo-sax player)
Good shows but I missed Lucas on vocals and the harmo/sax player was there to imitate Alan Wilson voice/harmonica, not a good idea sad smiley

I have the feeling that the actual line-up will be a great one, I'm happy they are a 4 members. I don't know Barry Levenson on guitar but I heard he was a great guitar player (Bloomfield style).

For sure go see them if you can. I'll let you know next month how it was.

who is still left from the original lineup?

Re: Canned Heat Tour Dates etc

Only Fito de la Parra.

Re: Canned Heat Tour Dates etc

Fito wasn't the original drummer, though....no originals remain.

Re: Canned Heat Tour Dates etc

If none of the original members remain then it is a cover band. Plain and simple. Why bother.

Re: Canned Heat Tour Dates etc

Date: March 13, 2006 18:52

Ok, T&A; but Fito played at least in 68, so...
It´s easy it slips into a debate on the Pope´s beard...
Dick Taylor may also be counted as a original-Stone?

But I thin the dudes above perfectly enlighten us why we
would bother... And as good Rockman has pointed out,
they were a cover band from the start.

Isnt all rock band cover bands?

It's not a case of some "nobody's" suddenly forming a band and calling themselves Canned Heat. Canned Heat as a working band has existed non-stop since 1967...membership has evolved over the years. It just so happens that it's at the point that none of the originals are around anymore. Nothing wrong with that in my book....the tradition of Canned Heat remains true.

I´m sure they rock as hell...
We do miss (doint we T & A) BLind Owl
& The Bear a lot; but we wont get them back anyway!

Fito is the spirit of the band.
As he says, "I was born to play with Canned Heat".
Even when Bob Hite was still alive, he was the person who managed the group (find record companies, shows, etc..).

This band has an awesome story. It's all about music and fun, a true spirit.

Read Fito's book, "LIVING THE BLUES-Canned Heat's Story of Music, Drugs, Death, Sex and Survival", the best music book I ever read.

George Thorogood : "as long as de la Parra is still alive, the spirit of Canned Heat will never die".

So has Beatlemania.

If Charlie was the only Rolling Stone left would you go see them and say man I just saw the Rolling Stones? I wouldn't. Buts thats my opinion.

Sure you change a member or two but if the whole band is different it is a cover band.

I think you're missing the point, Sicilian...I think you need to see this band to realize they are not some "Canned Heat" impersonation act....

I've seen a lot of blues shows, Canned Heat shows were the best, and it was shows of the last decade !!

T&A,

I'm sure they sound good, but if I say to someone who went to Woodstock I just saw Canned Heat, and he tells me that he saw them at Woodstock what band did I see? I'd have to reply oh the New Canned Heat.

Its apples and oranges man.

Re: Canned Heat Tour Dates etc

I understand your point. But, the more important point in this instance with THIS BAND is that Canned Heat was and remains always a "spirit" more than an assembly of particular musicians. That's an important distinction.

For Canned Heat lovers its a tough call, but from outsiders its pretty easy. If they were giving a free show at a bar I might check it out but to pay, no way.

Re: Canned Heat Tour Dates etc

why, because there are no original members? What if someone told you there's a great band of musicians playing for $10 down the road - they play some of the best blooze and boogie you'll ever hear. would you go?

I agree with you, they should have changed their name. I have a disc of Henry Vestine (former guitarist), it's Henry Vestine & the Heat Brothers (was recorded after Bob Hite's death).

But you know, maybe with that name they have more people at their shows. Don't forget they don't earn money from their sixties recordings !!

At what point could/would that have happened? Like I said, the band has slowly evolved membership over the decades.

By the by, the Glenn Miller Orchestra, Duke Ellington Orchestra and Tommy Dorsey Band all still exist. Nobody feels ripped off with them...why the double standard for Canned Heat?
