a damn good question!!! It's a major shame that it didn't take long for them to drop it.

It would have been apropriate for the Boston,New York,Chicago and Atlanta shows this past January as they were making their second trips there on this tour & supposedly were looking for songs that had not been played in those cities.Instead they recycled Respectable etc. although I'll admit they did make one or two good selections.

speaking of which, have you heard the Boston version of Respectable? Easily the worst rendition I've ever heard. Deserving of no respect whatsoever.

Oh yeah.I was about five feet from the b-stage railing despite having to spend a little more effort than expected to dodge the security.I agree that it was bad in Boston and I hear it was bad in Chicago as well.It was much better in 1999 & of course at some of the '78 shows.I hope they play Respectable just one more time because,it would be sad to see it go out like that.

I know, I love respectable. (Off one MY big 4, too) Mick seems to have lost the melody though.

don't really like the song much - but I gave 'em kudos for trying it out in '05 and I actually thought it worked fairly well. The Stones put it on the rs.com videos, so seems like they didn't think it stunk. hard to figure these guys.

Respectable was good live sometimes (78 tour maybe) but it's just one of those songs where the album version is perfect imo.

yeah....Respectable in Boston was HORRIBLE....but "As Tears Go By" was brilliant....and I got a pick at that show from Chucky Cheese at the B-stage, so I won't complain.....

who's got the boots to trade???

This song is good, but why don't they unveil 'Dangerous Beauty' at some point? That song, in my opinion, with only (Mick, Keith & Charlie), portrays the Stones at their nasty best. It would be a good song to include in Europe at the #6/7 spot in the set list. Variety . . what a novel concept!!

It Won't Take Long is fantastic.

There is a sense of understated menace in the music that has been missing since...what, maybe Let It Bleed?? (Unlike cartoonish attempts like Mr. D, Undercover, Fight, etc.) The lyrics are cynical enough to have met Andrew's approval, yet in no way seem forced or phoney.

The words are wary, but the performance just kicks. They aren't pretending to be kids again. It's age-appropriate, and it rocks like hell.

I can't believe that there are those who don't get it.

I get it, okay - just really can't take the "tough guy" Jagger vocal posturing...a bad habit he picked up in the 80's....

IWTL is for me the best song of ABB! i hope to hear it performed life in Europe!
i agree with loog droog reagrding the understated menace in the song and that it rocks like hell!

There is an interesting mix of songs on ABB for sure. Funny there are songs that some people love and some hate. Put me in the I love group for IWTL, DB, LWTLDI, and DTF. I hate Neocon, LIND, SOL, BM.

Its a good song (one of the better ones on the album) but the first time they played it, it was appalling. Heard a second version that was better but I dont think its been played since

However, it'll only get better if they keep playing it. Maybe Europe will get different ABB songs than the US did. Dangerous Beauty would be my personal choice (best riff on any Stones song since 'Start Me Up' - deserves its chance in a live setting)

I've never liked RESPECTABLE so I am not the one to say whether it was performed poorly in Boston or not! I was at that show and thought that because of the break there would be a few more gems other than " AS Tears Go By " which was done to pefection! That night RAMBLER was unreal, one of the best versions I've seen them do but I was pissed that the next night they did GIMME SHELTER and at our show Lisa didn't sing ANYTHING with Mick! Does anyone know if Lisa was sick that night!

It's a great song - love those guitars. I hope they bring it back live. Dangerous Beauty would be a nice addition to the setlist as well.

The Beatles say it won't be long til I belong to you, the Stones say it won't be long until I forget about your sorry ass!

IWTL and DB have the most obvious, clumsy and unoriginal riffs it is possible to imagine.

Gazza, I'm surprised. I could list many a Keith riff that is better than DB since Start Me Up. Nearly all since then are less contrived. Even the stuff on Voodoo Lounge is better.

He really has nothing knew to offer on the the rock-riff theme.

(And nor for me was SMU that special, just a one-riff song really).

The best riffs he has come up with since end of seventies, is One Hit and 999.

I do like the riffs to One Hit and 999 (in addition to the ones in IWTL and DB.) What about the riff to Wicked As It Seems? That one was so good it has been recycled several times.

Not a great fan of riff on Wicked - but like the song as a whole, particularly his vocals. To a Wibble's ears, in recent decades, his strenghths have been his ballads and slower numbers.

These are the great Keith numbers since seventies:-

All About You
Sleep Tonight
Slipping
Almost Hear You Sigh
(No Mistake)
*********Hate It When You Leave*************
Demon
(The Worst)
You Don't have To Mean It
How Can I Stop

I rate Can't Be Seen very highly as a rocker - but it's hard to find a riff in there! Yet he was squeezing new tones and nuances out of his lead phrases. There lies the originality.

999 and the Will But You Won't are incredibly effective. The latter is astonishing in the way it builds something transcendent out of virtually nothing. (The riff itself is nothing special- just provides an excuse for a remarkably powerful climax, to which Keith's earthy vocals are essential).

well, I was referring to Stones songs per se

I'll give you 999. Great riff indeed.

I'm not a big fan of Start Me Up as a song either. Its simply a great riff. Different story/argument
