Anyone else remember 76? The Melody maker letter of the week was entitled 'Jagger is 33, so what?' The NME ran with 'Jagger, just a weary parody'. Now it's 2006 asnd the Stones are still here!
All of us on this board need to get a bit of a reality check.
I was 14 in 76 and assumed I had jumped on the bus at the end of the ride. If you had told me that 29 years later the band would make an album as alive and in your face as ABB I would not have believed you. If you had told me that at the age of 62 jagger could still hold a stadium in the palm of his hand I would have laughed.
We are bloody lucky!
30 years ago they were sleazy junkies falling apart onstage. How AMAZING that they are still here and in better shape than for a long time.
So before you diss the set list remember the monotonous 81/2 set lists and before you diss ABB remember how most of Undercover sounded like a weak tribute band.
I can't WAIT for August. I was born in July 62 like the band was and I shudder at the thought of the inevitable end when it comes.
I just think we should all get some perspective (despite the ticket prices I admit) and be grateful that this incredible band is still there for us to enjoy.
very lucky! the stones have made so many people happy over the years.
im 18 and and it seemsthat the stonesare timeless because so many generations have cshared there music over the years. i went to two shows on this tour with my dad who is in his 50's and we had a blast.
not only are we lucky to havethe stones where lucky to have orgnized web pages like thisone where we can meet and communicate with people just as obsessed as we are
We are blessed for sure. However, Mick has made it clear that he wants to be judged not as an oldies act, but a contemporary living, breathing act. By that token, we still have to call bullshit when we see it and a bad performance is still bad. No one can come close to the bar they've set. That's their greatest triumph and curse. Long live the Stones.

Yes the Stones are great, yes it's amazing they're still around, yes we are lucky to have them. And yes, the setlists are still boring despite all of this. Why can't all of those things be true at once? It doesn't have to be either/or.
Absolutely...we can still here the guys play ROCK'n'ROLL! Who cares what they play as long as they play well. I've been to a ton of shows and always have a GREAT time....LONG LIVE THE STONES!
Who are YOU to tell the Stones what to play...are you on the payroll?

I guess that I'm someone who doesn't like seeing them make fools of themselves by turning into a repetitive oldies act.An oldies act is one thing.A highly repetitive oldies act is another.I am glad they're still around but, there's no excuse for what they've been doing lately.
Going to see the Stones tomorrow night, finally at the Forum again, where I saw them for the first time in '75.
Back then their longevity would have been unimaginable. Look how many bands they've outlasted...of course, there's the Beatles...but think of some of the other groups that are long, long gone: The Doors, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Led Zep...they all arrived on the rock and roll scene AFTER the Stones were already legends!
And the Stones roll on.
I remember the "we will bury you" attitude of early punk. "No Beatles, Elvis or ROLLING STONES" was the line in the Clash song, "1977."
A couple years back when the Stones played the Pond in Anaheim, a tape of songs played before the show included a song by the Clash, may they rest in peace.
Pretty ironic.
Every day in this world is a gift. So let's enjoy The Stones right now. Because we are very, very lucky indeed.
A perfectly titled thread. We really ought to be immensely thankful that we have them after all these years. Some of the criticisms that are periodically levelled at them, e.g. setlists, who has left, who has replaced him, standard of playing etc etc - really ought to be balanced against the fact that they're STILL here, still performing, and you can go and pay your money and get your fill of them. We are very very lucky indeed. Long may they continue to roll, and in so doing - put smiles on our faces and warmth in our hearts.
