almost hear you sigh...........overlooked classic

I have been listening to this song this morning, the live Version from Atlantic City and the versions that Keith recorded with the Winos (thanks leonard!). What a great song. Wish they were doing this one on this tour. IMO, its ranks with Angie or Wild Horses. One of the many over-looked classics. She was Hot, Winter, Time waits on no one, Let it loose...................................

You're right, it is underrated(maybe not from the hardcore fans)! There's a version of Keith with the Winos? I've never heard it? Is it an official recording? Could maybe someone post it here? Thanx!

Who the f*ck is Mick Jagger?

Billy318124.......(love your posts, by the way) Stop it? Like I said, IMO.........Yes, a classis. Listen to Keith's guitar playing, to mick's vocals.

It's not overlooked in my book, I often listen to that one. And it is a classic. About the Keith version, I find this one even better, even though it should have been finished, the lyrics isn't complete, and it's too long. Yet the groove, and Keith's singing, is magnificent.

I'm thankful the Stones do overlook this one. Schmaltz without style.

Jagger should have put it on a solo album with all the boring ballads he writes since Steel Wheels.

I don't think it's overlooked. Almost universally it seems to be regarded as one of their best latter-era ballads. And many consider to be the album's best track.

I'm not a big Steel Wheels fan, but having just heard this live for the first time last week (from one of the Urban Jungle shows), I definitely have a new appreciaton for this song. I like the arrangement, too - nice and spacious.

Not a classic in my book, but definitely one of Mick's better ballads. I'd take this over Out Of Tears or Already Over Me any day.

It's a Keith ballad, though...

I'm with you, a good one and much better than any of the 90's ballads.

Not only my favorite from SW, but one of my top 5 all time Stones songs. Keith called it "cousin of Beast Of Burden".

Could somebody post the Keith version so we can enjoy it? Thanks.

Nor do I overlook it - would that Angie would leave and make room for this in the setlist!

I've always loved that song, it is not corny, it has a beautiful intro, nice lyrics and it sticks in your head! Even my boyfriend who is not a Stones fan loves this tune! I'd love to hear it live, I won't hold my breathe.

Agree Kienan!

One of my fave's from the "latest" Stones material, taped the Video from MTV
watch it all the time, even though they cut some of Ronnie's Leads,
hate it when they do that.

I agree with most of you. It´s probably the best ballad since Angie. Ok, Beast of Burden is very good too.

I heard Keith wrote this solo during the divorce years and he didn't record because he knew it would be great for mick once they made up. I don't know how true this is.

Interesting story about Keith holding this one back--it was a smart move.

Think this is defintely one of their best ballads and a standout on SW.

Very good song, sounded great live. I wish they would bring it back live. It would work well after Streets Of Love.

"Too many roads lead to nowhere
But how they twist and they turn
And a dead end and a dusty old strip mall
Where your tires are all shredded and burned"

- Driving Too Fast

Unfortunately alot of the stones recent ballads (going back to "Waiting...") are VERY schmaltzy BUT I absolutely LOVE "Almost...." MY favorite song from Steel Wheels BY FAR!

I think Steve Jordan gets a credit on Steel Wheels for this song. It is played on Talk is Cheap outakes a couple times.

Yeah, I just got the 2 outtakes of this from my hero, Leonard K..... at least one (if not both) are with the Winos. Sounds great. I love to hear how a song develops.
