Many moons ago when I was young ...............

......... I bought 2 records. They were the first I ever bought. One was called Big Hits, High Tide & Green Grass by the Stones, and other was Green River by Credence Clearwater Revival.

The first changed my life forever. The second didn't quite have the same effect, but the fact of the matter is that I have always thought Credence were absolutely fantastic. Anyone with me on this, and more to the point, are they still around - and if so, in what guise ? Is Fogerty still out and about there somewhere ?

I remember all my school-friends dismissing me as being some kind of pervert because I adored Credence; they were all into thingslike like Iron Butterfly, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Deep Purple, Juicy Luicy, Argent, Family, Zappa - stuff like that. I stuck to my guns, Credence did it fo me, and still very much do.

F*** me I feel awfully old all of a sudden !!

Well Pauly,

I had about the same reaction...

In my teenage days I thought alot more about the Stones than I did for Creedence, even though I liked alot of CCR stuff if was a bit too "countrified" for my mainstream taste I suppose...

Then about 20 years ago I found myself with a strong interest in CCR stuff and bought the incredible cassette tape "Chronicle"... well I'm probably working on my 2nd or 3rd CD of Chronicle now...

As my screename might indicate, I'm quite a fan...

YES, both Fogerty and his old bandmates are very much still alive and kicking and both put on great shows.

JF tours as himself and Stu Cook and Cosmo Clifford tour as "Creedence Clearwater Revisited"...

I've seen both bands on every tour they've done.... JF at least 4 times, CC Revisited probably 6... both are INCREDIBLE shows, not just great but among the greatest you'll ever see...

Warning, there are these detractors who won't see a CCRevisited gig because JF isn't there but that's their loss, they are a great live show... They also have a great CD you should get: "Recollection", a complete live CD and the best piece of live recorded CCR sound you'll ever hear.

Enjoy.

They was founded early as 1959 and called The Blue Velvet, later The Golliwogs without sucess. Their first sucess was cover versions of "Suzie Q" and "I put a spell on you" as CCR. Tom Fogerty died only 49 years old in 1990. Nice to read that Cook and Clifford are still around, they tried solo in the 70s without sucess.

Hey Nicos....there was also a Bill Wyman quote....saying if he could play in any other band it would be CCR....makes sense....Billy & the Poorboys

CCR Rules! I remember reading that Brian Jones was really into them right before his death and had hopes of forming a CCR style band, hopes which of course were sadly unrealized.

Has anybody seen The Big Lebowski, where the hippie dude in the film is a big CCR fan but can't stand The Eagles? Some very funny moments there - his car gets stolen and all he cares about is getting his CCR tapes back.

Thanks for that Leonard, always like musical quotes from Stones members and others.

When Proud Mary Came out Bob Dylan said that was his favorite new song and I read that Brian Jones listened to that song a lot when it came out

Amen to Fogarty...there is a great old video of him doing Night Time.
Blue Moon Swamp, has a song that my son played at his wedding, called Joy of my life. So he has moved from one generation, to the next.

CCR were a wonderful band, "It Came Out Of The Sky" (is that a Chuck Berry tune?) was a great song (among other CCR songs) a band I was in as a kid played. I saw them live when I was 14, ('68') first concert I was allowed to go to without parental oversight. I don't really remember much about the concert, (I was not high!), except that they used 'Kustom' Amplifiers for the show which I loathed.

I ain't stupid, I'm just guitarded.

Oh man, this guy is great... and he's been doing it for almost ten years now...

John Tristao believe his name is... just incredible pipes, great connection with the fans. He's not the guitarist that JF is, and doesn't try to be... have a listen to their incredible CD "Recollection" and you'll probably be an instant believer.

One thing I've not seen is CCRevisited with their NEW lead guitarist. For the first 7 or 8 years it was Elliot Easton formerly of the Cars and this guy is one of the greatest guitarists in the world... just an unreal talent for drawing out the main lines of the songs and adding a minute or two to them.

I presume the new guy's great too, but haven't heard them in person yet.

CCR was a true American band who had that Spirit which the Stones did not have at that time. However don't get me wrong. The Stones message was always different, but not better or worse.
CCR, Grateful Dead and all those bands also like the band and some more reflected American Music for a decade or more which has not been reached anymore. This is why you have a huge crowd listening again to Country, Blues, Folk and all down to earth Music which is the right stuff.
However the Rolling Stones span is from Rock and Roll to Country, from Blues to Hypepunk via Disco and all this. A scale which has not been fulfilled by a lot of musicians. The most failed to be successful.. The Stones remained....

Yes, and the funny thing is, that I can't recall a band who tried to copy them.

Altough I always found that "Äll Down The Line" could have been a CCR song (try to image if John is singing this song).

Yeah, heard the diesel drumming all down the line.
Oh, heard the wires a humming all down the line.
Yeah, hear the women sighing all down the line.
Oh, hear the children crying all down the line.

(all down the line.) we’ll be watching out for trouble, yeah.
(all down the line.) and we’d better keep the motor running, yeah.
(all down the line.) well, you can’t say yes and you can’t say no,
etc.

Funnt that there is a post about CCR because yesterday i was listening to them all day long. Great band, great sound and awesome singing by Fogerty. Night time is the Right Time is absolutely awesome.

I'm excited to hear that the other two are still around and that they are worthwhile to see.

Born on the Bayou (the song) has such a great feel, i never get board of that song!!!

Cheers,
Wuudy

I just saw Fogerty on Austin City the other night and was very impressed. He rocked with a lot of conviction; took all the solos. Was very much a solos show. What I really liked was the short interview afterwards. He said that long ago he had made a committment to always give his all when performing. I dug the way he said it.

"...no longer shall you trudge 'cross my peaceful mind."

Hey Chelsea, I saw that too. Great show. He seems to have that Dick Clark no aging thing going on, didn't you think?

As for the Big Lebowski, I loved that movie.

Ohno, great quote about the beverage...and do you remember what the beverage was?

A white Russian, of course!

Fogerty is one of those guys who still looks 30 from 10 feet away (still has that same great rock 'n' roll hair from the '60s) or on camera with the lights and makeup, but if you see him closer than that he looks every bit his age.

I saw him in '97 and eventually worked my way up to the first row and at a few points he was like 6 inches in front of me. I'm not knocking him, he still looks great for his age, I'm just sayin'. I was thinking the same thing, wow this guy looks young, until I got a closeup.

That show was in L.A. and was taped for a VH1 special. I'm not sure if the special ever ran, but the show was released on VHS/DVD and is called Premonition. You can actually see me in a few crowd shots. I couldn't figure out why one of the cameras kept focusing on my section (I knew it couldn't have been because of my ugly mug) until near the end of the show when I realized I was standing right next to Fogerty's wife! Awesome show, by the way.

Hey PaulyWaul, what's with all this "when I was young" stuff? Have you been donning the pipe and slippers again?

Keep on rocking...you're but a slip of a lad, as they say in these parts!

Love Creedence myself, mind.

Sounds like a cool show ohno. Did he sing "There's a bathroom on the right" on Bad Moon Risin' ? I think Elmo (or maybe it was you?) said he actually sang that misunderstood lyric on a live CD.

I think Elmo is the one who pointed that out, but yep, he did it at the show and that's the show the live CD (also called Premonition) came from. For all I know he does it at all his shows, but he did it at that one for sure. I don't even realize it until later looking at the videotape.

Nah, just listening to some CCR MP3 on my laptop suddenly made me realise how awsomely great they were (and still are), and got me thinking how bloody long ago it seemed that I'd first heard them. Also I got to wondering whether like the Stones - they might still be out there somewhere plying their trade ?

Don't be silly, I don't do pipes n' slippers. I just get overawed by the enormity of life's pleasures on occasions - and fall over !! Where/when are we gonna see ya by the way ? Are you going to Barcelona/Madrid for the Bank Hol weekend in May ?

Creedence were huge, and rightly so. I often hear nowdays that The Doors, or Pearl Jam, or yadayadayada are the seminal US band, but for me CCR WERE/ARE it. They do not receive their justifiable dues I don't reckon.

As for the Stones, well, I'm (we're) on this boards, ain't we?
