Rolling Stones Fans Clash With Police
The Associated Press

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina -- Rowdy fans trying to enter a concert by the Rolling Stones without having tickets fought running battles with police Thursday and authorities said at least 20 people were injured.

Dozens of the fans were detained, police reported.

The clashes broke out when scores of fans were stopped by police at the entrances to the Monumental soccer stadium where Mick Jagger and his band were to perform later.

Police fired rubber bullets and used water cannons and clubs. The fans replied by throwing rocks and bottles at police.

Local television showed the fans being chased by police in the streets.

The Emergency Medical Service reported that at least 20 people were injured, including a television cameraman with a bleeding head.

Police had reinforced security at the stadium after minor incidents had already occurred at the Stones' first concert here Tuesday. More than 50,000 people wearing Stones T-shirts and wagging-tongue tattoos attended that concert. A similar crowd was expected Thursday night.

I don't think it is "cool" really. Fighting and riots I mean. People here don't have so much money. But they have a desperate wish to see the Stones. So they try all ways to get in. I saw fans jumping 4 meters i.e. 12 feet down from sections on the top to get to the floor. And getting hurt of course. I saw security kick and beat people who rushed in without tickets. On Tuesday. And I saw added security on Thursday and things were a lot more quiet then. Also the heavy and colder rain was cooling people down. But it was still a hot hot crowd with great singing and I am sure they can see the show on the Richter scale as everybody was jumping so that the entire field was actually shaking up and nown. The grass. I have never experienced that before.

On Thursday they had all sorts of security police posted everywhere but they were all sitting in their buses and relaxing. And the number of internal security was pretty high too. So it took a show to understand that the Stones are still the hottest band in the world - in Argentina.

I knew sooner or later there would be trouble if they kept "You got me rocking" in the set....

Just wait and see what happens if they start playing "Hold Back"....

If so many people want to get in but couldn't get a ticket why didn't they do more shows. I bet they love to play for a crowd like they get in south America everyday.

Cheers,
Wuudy

as said before, the simple reason why they didnt play more shows than they did in South America is because (despite all their claims about how this is one of their favourite audiences) they can make far more money in the US..so North America gets over 60 shows and South America gets three...

They'll go where the most money is!

Rocks Off - The Taylor people won the "battle"!!!

But really, hate to see stuff like that, poor people can't afford the price
of a Stones ticket nowdays, especially down there. And get their head beat in
for trying to get in to see the Stones... BV's right

Sad

I think it would have been as much a boost for tickets in Europe as Rio to perform, let's say, 10 more shows in SouthAmerica.

Believe me, I wasn't trying to re-start THAT thread.

Agree with bv...no one wants anyone hurt, but I also agree with one of the posters who said it's cool to see fans jazzed about the Stones.

I hope the situation was handled well and hope no one was injured seriously.
Anyone see/hear any reports today?
