everybody in this site seems really surprised when he (she) sees that a teenager is a stones fan !
eh ! i just wanted to say that the new generation of fans is there !!
the stones aren't a dead band, it's normal they get people of new generations, who (why not ?) are already dreaming about the forty licks 2003-2043 !!!

My question would be this--how many of those "young people" own ABB?

That would be the measuring stick to me--I am not sure what the answer to that is but the sales of this disc deserve to be much higher.

If they had put out a so-so disc then I could understand why only hardcore fans would buy it, but this record is something that should appeal to anyone who likes RnR, yet for some reason does not seem to have caught on.

i think to the extent that kids go these days it's at least at the partial urging of parents and to an extent so that they can tell their kids someday they say the Stones (not including StonesPrincess in this category, of course!). But, I don't look around at the kids at a Stones show these days and really believe they are really attracting a new generation of fans, per se....

My buddy took his son to Giants Stadium for that EXACT reason.

Hopefully in 5 yrs or so he will be still be a fan of the band--we'll see.

my comments are made to be taken as "general." I happen to know a particular 18-year-old girl who is as huge a Stones fan as anyone on this site. That's pretty rare, I think.....

Maybe the younger fans like them...
the Stones donĀ“t care, they are keeping them out of their shows by their
tasteless ticket prices.

I'm 19, and as my presence on this board indicates, am heavily into the Stones. I also have burned copies of ABB for several of my friends and the reviews have been overwhelmingly positive. (hey, it's not like they were going to buy it otherwise) One friend of mine, who previously did not know anything about the Stones, got so into ABB that we are planning on going to the movie theater show on the 28th together. (and then, if all works out, going to Stade de France this June)

I'm 15 years old. I first got into the band when I was 7. I was in the car with my dad driving home from somewhere, and the radio was playing a Stones A to Z special because the Bridges to Babylon Tour was about to hit town (Detroit) in a few days. We caught it towards the end, actually. "You Can't Always Get What You Want" was playing and initially I didn't like it too much. I have no idea why not. I guess I didn't like the choir in the beginning. Anyway, the song played and played and then something in me changed and I just loved it. I told my dad how much I liked the song and when we got home I found that he had some Stones CD's. One of them was Let It Bleed, so I immediately put that one on and listened to that tune I had heard in the car over and over again.

Because I was only 7 years old, my friends weren't really into music yet and alot of them didn't even know who the Stones were. I just kept listening though, discovering album by album and loving each one because it was so real. My dad also had some Stones videos....the 25X5 Documentary and the Voodoo Lounge Tour Video of one of the New Jersey '94 shows. So I watched those in awe pretty much everyday. There was just something about them that stuck out. I still feel that way. There's something about them that is just different, and better, than every other band.

At the end of that year, 1997, I watched the St. Louis PPV with my dad. After that, I insisted he buy me a guitar. That next year, '98, I got one. I didn't know what to do with it, but I was happy just holding it in front of a mirror pretending to be Keith. Throughout this time I learned how to use a computer so I would come on the internet and look at pictures and read about the band. I was too young to understand alot though and I had no idea message boards even existed. Not that I'd post on them even if I knew of them, I mean let's not forget I was only 8 at this point.

Stones music would always be with me. Then in '99, I saw them for the first time and I loved it. I began filling in the discography gaps in my dad's collection. I started buying more videos and DVD's. These guys were (and remain) my idols. Nothing matches seeing Mick Jagger and Keith Richards on stage. I have grown up with them, just like many of you have. That's the beauty of them, they have always been here. That's also why I don't complain alot about setlists, or Ronnie playing a bum note, etc....because they have done so many great things in the past and to me they are still great. There is something to like about every era. Alot of people here have 20 - 45 years on me in terms of age. But, they've been here for all of us.

So now I'm a teenager. I have gone through the usual teenage hangups and problems, etc...but the Stones have always been there for me. I've got some audio and DVD bootlegs thanks to some generous people on the boards and I know more about them than I ever thought I would. I still listen to the Stones constantly. I still watch them constantly. That will probably never change. I now know how to really play the guitar and the Stones serve as a huge inspiration to my style. When I'm working out and I start to get tired, I say to myself, "Ryan, don't be a pussy man...Mick's 62 and he does this!". I really can't explain my love of the band in words. There's just a special vibe I get from them. I don't really have to explain it either...I know many of you understand.

I know that was kind of long, but hey...just wanted to prove that there are still young fans of good rock and roll.

Well we Don't care ) I just can't stand today's music and As I Often Say " No Stones No Fun" I Don't know where my love for the STONES come from because Nobody in my family listen to Them , I discovered the GLIMMER TWINS with Forty Licks , and when I heard Start Me Up It Had Been love at first sight...

I'm 20 and got into them when I was 15 or 16.
It all started with a broadcast of "Gimme Shelter" on Bavarian TV and the Licks tour announcement in NYC.

I'm 16 and I own every single Cd ad most books, and my band plays more Stones than songs by any other band.

I love reading these accounts of younger folks getting into the band.

I was all of eleven years old in '81 when I just HAD to have a copy of "Tattoo You." My first-ever rock'n'roll record...

Based on that chronology, I've always felt like I was part of the last wave of Stones fans. Very glad to see just how wrong I was on that.

In the end, it all fits. I mean, think about the age difference between the Stones themselves and their idols. Robert Johnson, for example, was already long gone when the Stones started listening to his records. Had he lived, he would have been just shy of fifty when Brian and Mick and Keith started listening. The age gap is slightly more pronounced in the cases of Son House or Charley Patton, so the Stones were forming relationships to their elders not dissimilar from the ones that today's young 'uns are forming with the Stones.

Recognizing the depth that comes with age and experience is a rare and precious insight on the part of young people. And continuing to deliver at the high level the Stones have maintained makes that insight more readily available.

My teenager joined the Stones legion earlier this year--first put 40 licks on his ipod, then joined me in seeing the boys in Philly. now hes got a audience boot of the philly show as an ipod memento and treasures the recent rio show...classic rock is all the rage in his high schoo, but the stones rule the roost

OUT OF THE MOUTHS OF BABES!

You remind me of me when I was younger, I got into the Stones at around 10 and really got the fever at 15.

I am now 37... seen them many times and my love for them grows every day.

I have a 3 year old little girl that is so cool see insists on wears Stones t-shirts, sang get off of my cloud at the top of her lungs when it came on at the supermarket and when I stoped to watch a Prince video she insisted it was not good and made me put on a Stones DVD so she could REALLY dance.

THE STONES ARE FOREVER! If you don't dig the Stones, you just don't get 'it'

whatever 'it' is

It is so refreshing hearing stories like these. Deuce, you rock buddy. I think I first got into the Stones when I was 13 but that was over 20 years ago. Since then I've done my part to initiate the younger generation. I took my then 16-year old sister and my then 17-year old friend to a Licks show back in 2003. Earlier this year I took my cousins, ages 21 and 18, to a show. They all loved it. Hopefully they'll spread the word.

It kind of pisses me off seeing kids in my school with the tongue shirt on. I know it shouldn't, but it does. I'm not saying other people can't be fans, but I wear the shirt and I know all about them and I know all of their stuff. You have some dude walking up in a tongue shirt who has never heard anything other than Sympathy For The Devil and he's treated as their biggest fan by teachers and other kids.

You're totally right! I've been a fan since I was 8 yrs old and I never wore a tongue shirt at school because of that, and it pissed me off when after the Stones concert 8 yrs ago(I'm from Greece and the Stones have only been here 2 -1,5 actually- times) everybody seemed to love the Stones (=they were wearing the tongue shirt) when one week before the show nobody seemed to care...It is frustrating!

Who the f*ck is Mick Jagger?

Yeah, it can be frustrating. But, it's about the music, first and foremost. I figure, as long as I can enjoy the Let It Bleed album or listen to Brussels '73, then who cares if some gumpy kid walking by is wearing a Stones shirt. Speaking of that, I'll put money down that no one in my school has even heard that Brussels show. So hey, there's one advantage I've got.
