Re: well, you know, the stones are still popular by young people !!

I'm 15 years old. I first got into the band when I was 7. I was in the car with my dad driving home from somewhere, and the radio was playing a Stones A to Z special because the Bridges to Babylon Tour was about to hit town (Detroit) in a few days. We caught it towards the end, actually. "You Can't Always Get What You Want" was playing and initially I didn't like it too much. I have no idea why not. I guess I didn't like the choir in the beginning. Anyway, the song played and played and then something in me changed and I just loved it. I told my dad how much I liked the song and when we got home I found that he had some Stones CD's. One of them was Let It Bleed, so I immediately put that one on and listened to that tune I had heard in the car over and over again.
Because I was only 7 years old, my friends weren't really into music yet and alot of them didn't even know who the Stones were. I just kept listening though, discovering album by album and loving each one because it was so real. My dad also had some Stones videos....the 25X5 Documentary and the Voodoo Lounge Tour Video of one of the New Jersey '94 shows. So I watched those in awe pretty much everyday. There was just something about them that stuck out. I still feel that way. There's something about them that is just different, and better, than every other band.
At the end of that year, 1997, I watched the St. Louis PPV with my dad. After that, I insisted he buy me a guitar. That next year, '98, I got one. I didn't know what to do with it, but I was happy just holding it in front of a mirror pretending to be Keith. Throughout this time I learned how to use a computer so I would come on the internet and look at pictures and read about the band. I was too young to understand alot though and I had no idea message boards even existed. Not that I'd post on them even if I knew of them, I mean let's not forget I was only 8 at this point.
Stones music would always be with me. Then in '99, I saw them for the first time and I loved it. I began filling in the discography gaps in my dad's collection. I started buying more videos and DVD's. These guys were (and remain) my idols. Nothing matches seeing Mick Jagger and Keith Richards on stage. I have grown up with them, just like many of you have. That's the beauty of them, they have always been here. That's also why I don't complain alot about setlists, or Ronnie playing a bum note, etc....because they have done so many great things in the past and to me they are still great. There is something to like about every era. Alot of people here have 20 - 45 years on me in terms of age. But, they've been here for all of us.
So now I'm a teenager. I have gone through the usual teenage hangups and problems, etc...but the Stones have always been there for me. I've got some audio and DVD bootlegs thanks to some generous people on the boards and I know more about them than I ever thought I would. I still listen to the Stones constantly. I still watch them constantly. That will probably never change. I now know how to really play the guitar and the Stones serve as a huge inspiration to my style. When I'm working out and I start to get tired, I say to myself, "Ryan, don't be a pussy man...Mick's 62 and he does this!". I really can't explain my love of the band in words. There's just a special vibe I get from them. I don't really have to explain it either...I know many of you understand.
I know that was kind of long, but hey...just wanted to prove that there are still young fans of good rock and roll.
