I digress from the question to make a point I have made before. For me the "meat and potatoes" of Exile is SYH, CBoogie, TOTRun,VBlues and SBDown (and collaterally T&F). The impact of those gritty roadhouse guitar songs on how I perceive the band is enormous and life long. That sound is firmly grounded in its American roots. It touches the the American consciousness. But it is not a sound that the band has ever achieved on stage nor has the band seriously attempted to achieve it on stage. That sound and image of the band is a fiction separate from that recording.

Wait a minute ... I started this thread 2 and a half years ago and it's still on the front page??? Or maybe I'm halucinating and its still Feb. of 2006 ... in that case I just had a really weird, really long dream about several hazy sexual encounters and a truly enormous @#$%&' bar bill.

My favorite Stones song of all time is Let It Loose, off of my fav Stones album, EXILE! Nothing compares to this album! I love all of the songs! Always loved " Loving Cup", Sweet Black Angel", Shine A light" even " Just Want To See His Face" is cool. Wish Mick and Keith would go back in time and create another masterpiece like Exile again.

....Let It Loose is one of Jaggers most inspired performances on record ever.........Mick and Keith together on Loving Cup is excpeptional also.

Very, very difficult question.
The one that 'moves' me most = Let it Loose.

I could also do without hearing Tumbin Dice in concert, but it is still my favorite cut on Exile. IMO, Dice in concert has never matched the restrained, inspirational majesty of the original recording on Exile.

If I had to pick one or die, I'd go with Soul Survivor.

Of that T&F video, I am impressed of Ronnie's contribution. But Keith seem to have adopted the role of Art Garfunkel in Simon & Garfunkel as far as his contribution goes... he used to be THE guitar player of the band who "tries to keep the band together" (see his 1971 Rolling Stone Interview).

you're right. never liked the live versions. but still TD is one of the "big" songs i never cared so much about.....

I used to think Rocks Off was my Exile fave...and then it was Sweet Virginia...and then it was Ventilator...and then it was Casino Boogie - which is a great song...and then it was Loving Cup...and then Turd On The Run...and then Stop Breaking Down...but the one song that keeps hanging over me like an evil dark cloud with a load of heaviness in it is:

Soul Survivor.

it changes and varies but today and this month it's got to be Torn and Frayed for me
