To me, the Stones were freaks then. They aren;t anymore. They have always changed and tried to become a new "act". Unfortunatley, today's act lacks the spontienty and craziness of the 70s shows. Let's face it, when you watch those shows from the 70s, you never knew what was going to happen next.
How much cooler can Keith be in this show and will he make it through the show? (Knebworth 76)?
What would Jagger do next? Is this guy for real?
What kind of killer riff is Woody going to play on this song?
What kind of magic will Mick Taylor pull out on that song?
You could always count on Bill and Charlie to hold the whole thing together.
It is probably age. They knew they couldn;t go on like that. So what can they do now? A smooth controlled show. That's what we get. It's still good, but to me, not the "greatest Rock and Roll" show out there but who can sustain being that for 40 years?
Maybe they'll go back to playing clubs. it would certainly be a more dignified way to go into their 70s. As fans, I'm sure 95% would sell our kids to see that show.
I suppose we should be happy that we have new music and tours to talk about. I for one will always look at them as those extremely talented peole who put on tremendous shows in the 60s and 70s. Just like I'll always look at my wife as though she were 25 years old and 100 lbs , my kids like they are still 6 years old, and myself like I'm a ripped, jacked, gorgeous 25 year old Italian-American man that every 18 year old girl in the US wants to mate with.
Ahhh living in the past. It's great, ain't it??
