accurate? how can a review be accurate? it's just an opinion - every opinion is as "accurate" as the next.
Just sounds like one person's uninformed, shallow opinion. Obviously he is not someone who truly understands the subtleties and progression from one Stones cd, era, to another! No real appreciation , thus no understanding.

Why is that obvious. I more or less agree with the review and I think I am pretty damned "informed." What makes it obvious that this reviewer is not?
I hope I have not offended any religous poeple by using that word. I was actually thinking about Monty Phython's film Life of Brian at the time. You know the scketch! For me, I am an agnostic.
it's kind of ironic when the guy in the scene you're referring to who is about to get stoned for blasphemy is called Matthias (which is kinda close to Mathijs!)

Well that might not have included you so dont go too red!
OK. I respect everbodys opinion. Except I don't understand the basis of RC's critical overload on the Stones. I wonder if he will still feel the same in years to come. Remember Exile's critics?
I think the RC reviewer's right in a general way -- who really needs a new stones album like ABB? not me, though it's not bad -- but is misguided in what he thinks would make a good new stones album. He seems to want them to be _better_ at aping younger performers, whereas I and I think most stones would rather they stop trying and recognize their essential gifts. Hence the super bowl performance was quite good, I thought -- raw but sharp rock and roll.
To be clear, I'm not asking for another Voodoo Lounge, which is a lifeless album. Instead, I respect the chances taken on Bridges to Babylon, but "respect" is not an emotion that actually gets me to play the album very often. If they could get into some mature music that they really feel, we might have something we really need to hear. But as long as they're more concerned with their "brand," we'll have dispensable, market-aimed efforts like ABB.
