COME BACK Eddie the Eagle, that's what I say. The Norwegians won't have a chance of winning any ski jumping medals if that boy decides to reappear ....... !!!

hi folks,

when i think of Winter olympics i always have that historical (ice)-hockey match between USA vs. USSR ( formerly known as the Sovjetunion) which the US college boys won 4:3.
It was one of the socalled hitorical sensations..cause beating that perfect Russian team was almost impossible that time....

And I remember the final hockey game in 1994 Lillehammer Norway where Sweden won gold medals. A thriller vs. Canada!

Yes, BV. One of the greatest and most exciting moments in Winter Olympics history. Wasn't the arena built inside a mountain?

That game was in the main venue Haakons Hall in Lillehammer:

Thats right Koen...they have a few practices when together in Italy but that's it.

I must say I'm delighted that there seems to be interest in hockey on this board. I am a Canadian but grew sick of the thuggery they play in North America, the fighting and obstruction, etc. Olympic hockey is the only hockey I will watch.

Eddie the Eagle. We need him again. What year was that 1992?

Norway won 13 gold medals last olympics and was the best nation. Norway could be the best nation this time as the did in `92, `94, `98, `98 and `02, but I don`t think they will get 13 gold medals this time. In fact I don`t noone will make that, before you got alot of new competitions.

Well, good luck to you all, even you Doxa.

And what a lost it was??!!! After skiing 15 kms in a Lake Placid forest and mountains he lost 0.01 secs to Swedish Wassberg!!! The Smallest lost ever possible. After that that they changed the timing from 1/100 secs to 1/10 secs... Poor Mieto, he was the best at this time, but never won any personal championships or gold metals... But I
think because of THAT lost he always be legend. That singular silver will always be rated above some 20 Norwegian doped gold metals smiling smiley.

Quite surprised that you remember him, Baboon Bro! I thought only Finns know him.

No Norwegian speed skating medals this time Bjornulf...

The Dutch will beat 'm all...

Re: Winter Olympics 2006

You know we sold our speedskates and spent all our money and time on skies in all forms. That's why we got our first gold medal in ski jumping yesterday. But don't count on it. I hear we have a few monster guys a la jan Olav Koss coming up. I am sure you know what he did in Lillehammer. Was it something like 3-4 gold medals? Shame I don't remember...

PS. The Stones connection: How many Olympic Stadiums have the Stones played in their history?

Johan Olav Koss is a legend. Koss and Eric Heiden are the best speed skaters ever, I admit, but you won't get medals for history.

And if ever in the very far future Holland will be reshaped with mountains and fjords (?), due to earthquakes and moving continents, I'm sure they will beat Norway in all ski disciplines...

But for now: congretulations with that first golden medal.

What do you all think about the snow boarding competition? Do you Europeans see it as just a silly American sport? I watched it yesterday and was fascinated by it. Skate boarding on ice.

The Finns are much better than Norwegians in that, so it's cool!
We got bronze yesterday in half-tube (or what is it called?)

Hm... Doxa, you are bitter on the norwegian people. People who have used dope in Norway are almost dead in norwegian eyes. If you are norwegian and get caught with illegal drugs you have no support anymore, absolutly no support, very unlike your people. But I`m not surprized if someone find out that Koss used it.
Eric Haiden admitted that he used drugs.
The funny thing about Norwegians people from Finland and dope is...

50% of norwegian people think that their athlets do drugs and almost noone get caught
20% of your countrymen think that their athlets do drugs and a lot get caught.

Stranges, it should be the other way.

Well, all that is history now, let`s take a drink and celebrate each other and I wish myself and you good luck.

Doxa, watch out for that "drug-comment" on Norwegians. We react to that as some other people in the world react to other stuff (can't go into details).

Erik_snow, I throw snowballs very long...maybe because I use drugs...
