Roxy Music

Hi.
I got some Roxy Music CDs I really enjoy, but I don't know much about them.
I saw "Do The Strand" on TV 5 years ago, and went to buy a CD. And there, right in front of me, was Jerry Hall almost naked. So, I bought "Siren", and it was just really great! Later I bought the other CDs with Roxy from the 70s, and really liked County Life, and parts of For Your Pleasure. Avalon and Manifesto was not good, I think.
Anyway, I don't know anything about them, apart from Brian Eno's career, through David Bowie.
I just wondered if someone had any opinions about them, or some stories (or just some dirty jokes.)

Erik,

Check out the version of the In Every Dream Home A Heartache from "For your pleasure" that Jane Birkin did on her recent lp. She duets with Bryan Ferry and this version is 10 billion times creepier and sexier than the version on the original album.

Yeah, Roxy Music was a great band and it seems you've scooped up their best stuff already. I just hope you got the original cover art from "Country Life". My lp is the censored version. Arghhhh!!!! Strike one up again for Puritanical America and the Superbowl bleeping. Sheesh! Where's Ferrante when you need him?

i have only one Roxy Music...their debut lp.....an important and influential record....quirky pop, electronic, rock'n'roll, experimental all rolled into one on this great lp

Roxy was a classic and is still a very good
touring band. My favourite period is the early
more experimental period from the first album
through Country Life, tho in my books they
didn't make a bad album. Glad to hear
others hear like them a lot too!

If you can find the BBC boots from the seventies
check them out!

I have the boxed set on CD and had all the original Vinyl.

Check out the guitar on the song Amazona...wow what a scorcher!

Saw them live backin up ELO late in the 7o's in Indiana, I bet I was the only person there that knew who they were. Mr. Ferry was disgusted that night with his audience.

They have had more influence and respect amongst musicias then the record buying public.

Ha ha yeah -that cover was banned for awhile during the seventies.
I first saw them on that tour, they really smoked! I eas into the
first album when it came out, but was pretty much alone with that
one for years. They didn't really click in North America
until Love Is the Drug, which was disco hit.

Oh, I looked up the word in the dictionary.
I've hooked on that girl for sure.
She must be about 50 by now, and I'm only 24, so I guess there's no need in tracking her down, and ask for a proposal.

Not to forget Avalon, a departure for them, but one of the all time great "romance" albums.

Roxy Music is a very cool band. I love Bryan Ferry's solo material also which is great to fornicate to. I saw Roxy Music in concert appx. 4 years ago in Vancouver BC on their reunion tour. They were great!

I met Bryan few years ago in Seattle while he was touring for his solo project of old standards. He was very nice and a class act. He looked damn good too.

Try their first live album "Viva Roxy Music". It's great!

I also like "Viva" a lot. I am big Roxy fan and saw them many times live in Europe in various configurations. I do like "Manifesto" quite a bit except for the last few tunes that are getting too wimpy. But Side 1 is excellnt. It was a big return for them. I was in NYC when it came out and it made a good splash with all the Bassists that were mixed pretty high. Strange that Roxy could never keep a Bassist. The commercial one "Avalon" I hate with a passion. The first two are the best with Eno. The next three are all still excellent (Country Life, Stranded and Siren). Then Bryan's obsession as a lounge lizard took over.
His solo stuff IMO is erratic. When he just gets too white jacket-y he bugs me. But lots of the stuff (Another Time, Let's stick together and especially These Foolish Things) are supercool.
Also met them several times and Ferry, Manzanera and Thompson were always very nice. But Andy MacKay is firstrate prick.

Been a Roxy fan since their first album (early 1970s). I'm not at all keen on their albums from Avalon onwards but their earlier albums are brilliant. Such good word combinations in some of the lyrics as well. Saw them again last summer. Bryan Ferry still looks great - he must be about 60 or so now and is the absolute maestro of cool.

they're not bad IMO.They have around 20 very good songs.

The problem for me is that their music has aged little bad.

Nice to hear from you, people!
So, I'm not the only one.
I wonder how Ferry feels for the Stones, and especially Mick's marriage to Jerry Hall.
Thanks, guys.

Their DVD from the Apollo, recorded in 2002, is really good. And for a little eye candy, check out Julia Thornton who plays percussion and keyboards...she's big time hot.
