Hardly anybody watches the "also-ran" news network here in the States called MSNBC. I was channel surfing last evening and caught some Stones/Superbowl footage which halted my remote finger for a moment on said "news network." Host Keith Olberman, a fellow whose attempts at "edgy" can only be described as forced and contrived, was discussing the SuperBowl entertainment with some other self important blowhard. Olberman mentioned the Stones and said, "They sucked..."

It went like this:

"Mick Jagger sounded like John Madden singing.  ABC censored two key words by simply shutting off his mic.  They should have left it off.... 

"Still trying to find out whom we call about getting those 3 ½ hours of our lives back.  In the interim, to assist me in the cultural complaining, I‘m joined by author and humorist, Andy Borowitz.

Good evening, Andy."

ANDY BOROWITZ, AUTHOR/HUMORIST:  "Good evening.  It‘s great to be joining you in the whining tonight." 

OLBERMANN:  "Yes, sir.  It‘s not like that was a—the game was a dud but the event was great.  Everything was a dud....

"Let me ask you about the collaboration of the Rolling Stones at halftime.  They collaborated.  A, they sucked.  B, they‘ve been doing this for 43 years.  They‘ve made $745 billion.  How much more money do they need..?"

Anybody catch it or are MSNBC's ratings worse than even I thought?

Keith Olberman used to be a local newscaster in my area........he always struck me as a wanna-be comedian who hasn't a clue that he isn't funny.........'nuff said.............if he reaches Mick's current age, he'll be in an old-age home, bed-ridden, drooling on himself and mumbling "who are you people?" to his own family

This idiot left ESPN in the 1990's because he did not have a drivers licence and moved to NYC so he would not have to drive. It was reported here in CT (where ESPN is located) that his mother would drop him off at work so he could do SportsCenter. Blowhard!!!

Remember a few years ago when Chuck Knaublach overthrew the ball into the stands and it brained Olberman's mom? Good times, good times.

It was baseball - Knaublach was the Yankees' second baseman who had a mental block and couldn't throw the ball to first base to make an out. For a Red Sox fan like me, it was hilarious. Anyway . . . )

Olberman is a smarmy, self-important prick with delusions of grandeur. Too bad all his ventures into serious news seem to fail - nobody watches him. Last I heard he was returning (crawling back with his hat in his hand, I should say) to ESPN.

i know that one JuanTCB.....and that might have been the beggining of the end for Knaublach....he couldnt throw after that, to save his life........totally got psyched-out..........same happened to a local Dodger in the '80s: Steve Sax....same deal...had to see a psychiatrist

Who cares about these guys seriously?

Olberman's cool. He represents hope for the future of cable news (there ain't a lot of it out there, either!).

Having nothing to do with my particular admiration for him - I also happen to more-or-less agree with his commentary in this case.

I dig Olberman. His show is the highest rated on the lowest rated Cable News channel.
I thought the Stones rocked. Could've done w/o Satisfaction, however--at least a shorter version and then they could've stuck in another '60s tune.

But Olberman makes a blank statement that the stones suck and you say you agree with him, WTF T&A??? if thats how you feel why are you on a stones fan board?criticism is cool,but general condomnation of a band on said bands fan site is trolling in my book.

Be nice, though. Tell him you thought he was hip and different and then he goes and trots out the tired "they're old and rich" schtick.

Tell him how unoriginal that line is and tell him, as I did, that you won't be watching his show anymore, if you want to.

He thinks he's cool now because 'Rolling Stone' magazine named him one of the Top Ten Rebels of the Year recently (along with Mick & Keith, which you might point out to him). He thinks he's wryly humorous but, unfortunately, he just comes across as a brat.
