ABC puts a 5-second delay on Super Bowl
Posted by: NICOS ()

Just in case Mick Jagger or, God forbid, Keith Richards decides to flash us, ABC was already planning to put a 5-10 second delay on the halftime show. Now it will also be ready in case Matt Hasselbeck decides to moon the camera. For the first time in the Super Bowl's 40-year history, the entire event will be broadcast with a five-second delay. That includes pre-game, game, and post-game coverage. Gee, I wonder what that's all about. It couldn't be the thing that wouldn't die, AKA Janet Jackson's accidental or intentional boob reveal during the halftime show two years ago, could it? Apparently ABC doesn't want the $550,000 in fines that CBS had to pay for that major nip slip. Last year, FOX refused to put a tape delay on its broadcast of the Super Bowl. FOX network said it was treating the game "as a news event".

The Parents Television Council publicly praised ABC for going with the delay. The group president said, "ABC has wisely decided to ensure that this year's Super Bowl is not hijacked by raunchy performers as it was in 2004."

Now that the sex will be taken care of, what about all the shots of the coaches and players yelling curse words? Come on! We may not be able to hear them but we know they're not yelling about figs.

For sure the Stones got a big list of songs they can't play.

JJF, SFTD, BS, I can name 100 more.

Performers like Janet (excuse me, Miss Jackson. I'm nasty), rely on shock value to make their performances memorable. I believe most Stones fans get a visceral thrill from the performance alone and as such do not need to be shocked in order to appreciate the experience. I too would like a surprise, but something of the variety of "Wow, I'd never hear that song arranged that way!"

I really don't think the Stones will any thing to shock (they did it all before)

Probably not, but I'm sure the NFL's thinking is, "You never know."

After all, Bono pissed the censors off at the '94 Grammys by saying that U2 would "continue to do our best to fcuk up the mainstream." I can't think of many bands that are MORE "mainstream" than U2, so maybe the NFL fears that Mick will do something similarly misguided.

But I think that Bono felt like he had something to prove, whereas Mick presumably knows that he doesn't. Doing something outrageous at the Super Bowl would get a lot of publicity in the United States, but the U.S. tour is over (and I don't think anything is going to have a major impact on ABB sales anymore). I doubt that Europe and the rest of the world would pay it much mind, because I get the impression that people in the rest of the world are less uptight than we Americans are, at least about cursing or nudity.

If I was running ABC I would do a tape delay as well. Let's be realistic- this is not a Stones concert it's the Super Bowl Event.

Anyway, Janet Jackson has minimal talent and she has to pull an idiotic stunt to draw attenion to herself.

The Stones, on the other hand, have the greatest catalogue of songs in the history of music. Keef ripping the opening chords of JJF are better then anything Janet Jackson can do.

don't give me that ole one two, one two three four

Jesus, yet another non-white musician who doesn't play rock 'n roll being bashed by bigfrankie. Just to recap (according to bigfrankie): Aretha Franklin only belongs in pie-eating contests; Kanye West is an "imbecile"; and Janet Jackson has "minimal talent."

I thought the "wardrobe malfunction" was a weak stunt, and I don't particularly care for her music, but even I will concede that Janet Jackson is a talented singer and performer. What's your problem?

I don't really understand what you wrote, sorry.

But you have to separate the porn industry from the uptight types who run the broadcast networks, as well as from the fundamentalist religious types who put pressure on the networks and the political conservatives running news outlets like FOx.

America is a big country, and the porn comes, for the most part, from just one small area outside of Los Angeles, so don't assume that it is in any way representative of the mores of the country as a whole.

I prefaced my comment by APOLOGIZING for not really understanding what you had written, trying to be polite! Now you are going to get pissy with me?

If you paid attention to your typing and learned English a little better, this wouldn't be a problem. Seriously, with its lack of punctuation and spelling mistakes, how the fcuk am I SUPPOSED to know what this means: "And that's pissed me of the biggest Por. industry comes from the US,"?

As to hypocrisy: there may be hypocrites in the U.S., but there are hypocrites everywhere, and I'm fairly certain that the porn industry and the religious right are mutually exclusive groups.

Hey, let's not slam someone's command of English. The man is just making conversation.

Don't give me that. Read his post again. I tried to make conversation with him and he essentially told me that I shouldn't try to if I couldn't understand his garbled posts: "BTW If you don't kown what I wrote why do you give an anwers."

I agree, but then again, the Super Bowl is considered 'family' entertainment in America.

Besides, how many Muslim countries have the Stones toured?

The Mullahs would deficate and fall back in it at the very sight of the Tongue and Lips logo!

The NFL (National Football League) is sometimes referred to as the "No Fun League," because it is so straight-laced and uptight. Players get fined for wearing the wrong color shoe, etc. The NFL has control over Super Bowl broadcasts, so they presumably asked for a five-second delay.

Again, though, America is a big country, and what the NFL does is not necessarily reflective of what the country as a whole would do!

The reason that I post this article was that I'm not affraid that the Stones would do something stupid. (they are fully grown man you know)

"I don't really understand what you wrote, sorry" the meaning of this sentence has nothing to do with understanding of Englisch, if I translate it means what it said. If it's a saying for or what ever you called it in Englisch, we don't learn that on school.

But now I understand what you mean. Sorry for that.

If I re-read my post again I see that I make typing faults "anwers" in stead of answer so what the heck I make them also in my own language.

About hypocrites, I know there everywhere, only if I read this article it's get me by the balls and it makes me angry, that's all.

Indeed, but since when have the Rolling Stones become a 'family' act willing to compromise their music and allow TV producers to dictate to them what songs they can and cannot play?

and some people still manage to keep a straight face when they refer to them as 'rebels' ?
