Yes, but did he not put out feelers in hopes of rejoining the Stones for some of the Wembly shows during Licks?

he definitely has no regrets - I have no doubt he is happier in life without the Stones now than he ever was with them.

not really. I think that was more a case of the press asking leading questions

Bill quit because his heart wasnt in it anymore. Good enough reason for doing so and even though his playing is missed its still better that he was honest to do that rather than go through the motions

Hard to walk away from that kind of money and fame. Credit where its due for him doing what he wanted to do

I miss him too, but he's 6-7 years older than the rest and HATES to fly. Of all the Stones he had the best job. No pressure to write the tunes, no drug addictions to ruin his health, and MORE poon than the rest combined (apparantly). Just show up, play great bass and cash the checks (and take your daily penicillin shot!!haha). Yes, of all the Stones, he'd be the one I'd want to be!!

No he should not have quit but I doubt he has many regrets mabey a few but not many. Mick Taylor on the other hand probably has many regrets but who cares the Stones have always been better with Ronnie Wood anyway at least we know he won't leave them in a bad spot like Taylor did.

He might leave them without a 2nd guitar player at all if he's not careful, thats even worse sad smiley

Bill has enough money, quit on his own terms, and is probably more than happy to be out of the game. He reminds me if George Harrison in a way. He never seemed to be one who loved the spotlight (although he sure liked the women).

I'm sure Bill is secure. I would say he "retired" (not quit). I understand that Charlie is not too crazy about travel either.

don't give me that ole one two, one two three four

Bill said in a dutch tv show "Winter times" that he quit because he thought that the stones weren't doing anything renewing in years so he quit because he saw no point in going on. So that means he didn't care for the money anymore or the fame. IMO he quit because his heart wasn't into it anymore and i respect that dissision a lot because other people would have stayed to cash in the checks.

Cheers,
Wuudy

Charlie would never quit though, for that reason anyway. He doesnt want to be the one to bring it to an end.

After every tour he says 'no more', but Shirley said a few years ago "He never will. He hates the idea of letting Mick and Keith down"

I think he just got old and wanted to spend some time with his young wife. I know he gets hurt when Mick makes fun of him during the shows. For instance, take RFK in Washington, opening night of the Voodoo Lounge Tour, Mick said: "I must say I've been in Washington about a week and I hadn't heard so much about health care for the elderly since Bill left the band"

I'm sure his broker has regrets, but Bill? Nah.

Hey, I was thinking about having that as my signature. I laughed out lloud when I first heard that. How do you know Bill doesn't like that?

By the way, I miss Bill too. But I think he's still a happy man. I wish he would do a few shows with them from time to time though.

No and yes, but in his own terms. He doesn't miss the Glimmer bullsh-t, but could have gone creatively a few more years within the Stones....

.....however, how many people get to retire when and where and how they want to. He still gets to make music with more of his own creative control. I'm envious of his exit strategy.

Nothing against Darryl... someything is missing without Bill. Its a huge hole. When you look at that picture.....it is just not the same.

====someything is missing without Bill. Its a huge hole.====

Yeah, it pretty well nailed the coffin in their working band phase, which the decade of the 80's put it there.

Pervert that he was, he was underappreciated, underutilized, and screwed out of his rightful share of creative control and royalties.

no regrets?.....why does he bother us with books on the Rolling Stones. Why did he call his restaurant chain Sticky Fingers. He just doesn't have his own ideas.....like MT

bother us with Stones books?......didn't know you're the spokesperson for "us".....maybe he called his restaurant Sticky Fingers 'cause he was a Rolling Stone for 27 years or so?.....ya think?......no ideas of his own....guess you never listened to his bass lines

you're right, can't speak for you...lets say "us" its me and some friends and the last book is terrible...don't think he was involved in creating a single album title in 27 years except his own...why not Monkey Grip or Stone Alone (how creative) or so, instead of Sticky Fingers?...didn't say anything against his bass lines.

=====bother us with Stones books?......=====

I love his books. He doesn't actually write them per se, but they are usually still the best info on Stones past history.

And Blues Odyssey is a MUST for any serious Blues or Stones fan. Period.

He can bother me with books any time.
