Favorite Bourbon Whisky's??

Alright, tip of the hat to my West Coast friend (T&A), but let's talk about aged American Oak barrel products (primarily good old Ky bourbon):

My top 5 would be:

Basil Hayden's
Pappy Van Winkle
Booker's
Knob Creek
(tie) Woodford Reserve and Jack Daniels (keeping the the Stones theme)

And don't forget Early Times (with your Mint Julep) when visiting Churchill Downs for the first Saturday in May- a real treat smiling smiley!

This is my kind of thread!

I had some Old Pogue at a bar last week - liquid gold. Really wonderful stuff. I only knew of it because I'd ordered a Woodford and they were out - the bartender recommeded the Pogue instead. It was better than the Woodford.

Great name, too.

Willie Nelson's Old Whisky River is solid, too. Plus, you get a free guitar pick - can't beat that!

GREAT TOPIC !! Yum yum...

Being from London, i probably dont have the selection you guys enjoy in the good old U.S of A, but I am a sucker for Makers Mark.

However, Jack Daniels is not bourbon. Isn't it true that bourbon only comes from Kentucky, and Mr. Daniels is from Tennessee??

I just got home from a long weekend in Prague, and every bar I went to, they had this bourbon called "Four Roses". I had never heard of it, but i was drinking it with coke, as it was half the price of JD.

Makers Mark I always drink neat with some ice, never mix it! Heathen!!

Anyone that like's Jack Daniels should definitely try Gentleman Jack. Its an upscale sipping whiskey that should NEVER be mixed, only drank over the rocks.

There is nothing finer!

Gentleman Jack I beleive is filtered twice. It is the best of the best for JD. JD is it for me.

Jimmy, thanks for correcting my mistake regarding JD.

If you prefer the Maker's neat, you should give the Woodford Reserve a whirl as well. Bottoms up!

First of all I believe whiskey should be blended with absolutely nothing, except a FEW rocks of ice.
I have a bottle of Single Barrel JD with, I think, 50% alc. by vol. Rather heavy, but still smooth.
In my opinion Gentleman Jack is too perfumed. I hought it was made to make it easier for the ladies to enjoy.
I really, honestly, enjoy Rebel Yell the most whenever I can get my hands on it, which is not often here in Norway.
For everyday drinking, Jack D. is the only one for me.

With all this bourbon talk, I think I'm going to have a cocktail this weekend.

Break out the ol' Rebel Yell and coke and sip away whilst I watch Mick humiliate himself dancing routines with cheerleaders.

Aaaaaaaaaahhh. Good sippin' whisky....

I can understand this coke thing with whiskey. It just ruins it. But I might be strange. If you pour coke into your whiskey you could use just about the cheapest brand there is! It's like mixing cognac with Sprite/7UP, IMO..

Coke just makes it more palatable. I can't take alot of bourbon straight....burns a hole in my tub.

Yeah, bourbons have to come from Bourbon County, KY, to technically be considered "bourbon", I think.

Jack is a Tennessee whiskey, which I think is pretty much identical to bourbon except for charcoal filtering?

Knob creek is good.
But I have quitted booze 2 years ago. It's easy to drink too much, and you don't realize it before you get up from the chair.

EARLY TIMES is the best for everyday needs (incl concerts)

JACK DANIELS or a GRAND OLD DAD is good for finer needs

REBEL YELL-- no offense to Keith, but I don't dig it all that much

Best thread in years! My faves: Old Grandad 101 proof and Rebel Yell. I do like all the stronger bourbons better, and I don't like the sweeter stuff. I found Jack Daniels to be a tad to sweet. The Wild Turkey 101 proof is also good, but not for sipping but more for getting drunk.

Something dreadfull: in Holland bourbon was getting quite expensive ($30 for a bottle of Jack) as the price is connected to the alcohol percentege. So, most makers changed from 43% alcohol to 40% to lower the price, but this 3% just makes the bourbon lack the bite! It really makes a big difference! 43% Jack or Rebell Yell gets harder to find over here, and Old Grandad is really rare.

1.) George Dickel (White label)

2.) Jim Beam

3.) Wild Turkey 101

Honorable Mention: Knob Creek and Booker are both really good but very expensive.
