Has anyone else seen this dvd?I am not a Ronnie basher by any means, but his solo on Start me up sounds like he is having a stroke or something. For a song he has played that much it is surprising to me.IMO.

Ronnie isn't the guy the Stones need. End of story.
He's pulling them down.

KMA... Ronnie's lead on Start Me Up at the U.C. 1-25 was one of the highlights of this tour... in-fcukin' credible

Have not heard Ronnie's solo on start me up (9.13.05), but he did a great job at the Fresno gig...(better than the overall sound and playing at the SF1 show) IMHO....

ronnie.....is a hall of fame guitarist....one of the all time greats....

just seems to be inconsistent these days which is too bad.

after all these years i can certainly understand the stones not wanting to put someone new into his spot....you wonder how horrible the results of such a move might be....probably more potential downside than up at this stage of things.

but it really sucks....when you pay thousands of dollars to go to a stones show with a few friends....and see less than the best potential product out there.

maybe it's something to do with the fact that the artists are real people, not a "product".

Yeah but it is sad because it really seems like he is a talent wasted. Is he really happy playing with them?

None of us are perfect as human beings make mistakes now & again so an occassional error is acceptable.
However if you want pefection at Stones concerts where the guys are just human beings like the rest of us then just buy or play the studio version.

It just kills me that when Mick or Keith will have a bad day out of, say 30-40 concerts, the ratio is 1 out of 2 for Ronnie.

Mick may have some nights that are better than others, but he appears to work hard every night. I have never seem him coast through a show. He's a hard working son of a bitch.

right on, Shawn. As for Ronnie - I find that it helps to be severely inebriated when listening to him these days. Up to but quite at the point of unconsciousness....

I agree Bayou. I couldn't believe how great it was that night. Strange it was so bad a few nights earlier.

Yes ,I agree, Ronnie has his UPS as well as his downs.I thought he played "Sway" well at the 1/20/06 MSG show.I was just surprised and disappointed at a solo he has played hundreds of times.

I doubt Mick Taylor is better these days and I don't see him back with the Stones, but the point wasn't who is better.

Nobody said MT should come back. We're just commenting on Ronnie's inconsistency.

Mick Taylor still has it . Ronnie don't.

Is Ronnie only defined by his leads?

Ronnie is playing very good also he looks great

It amazes me that two Stones fans can listen to the same Ronnie lead and have such polar-opposite reactions. Variety (of opinion in this case) is the spice of life, I suppose....

SeNdEr, I just have a simple question for you, please don't take offense: did you listen to the Stones boots live performances pre-75?

just wanted to comment on my use of the word product in an earlier post....

of course i consider the stones as human beings first and foremost....as all of you guys i am a great fan of these guys...and have been for nearly 30 years....i love these guys...probably alot more than i should in life....

but they do produce a product.....and at the prices they charges...it is quite an expensive product.....the fact that they are still playing brings be incredible happiness.....

yes they are human beings....and they are not perfect.....i never in my post said i expected perfection for my money....in fact one of the endearing qualities of the stones...and some of my favorite moments as a fan have come when they messed up....and then i say...damn...that's even better than if they did it right!!!

but it bugs me if it seems something is getting in the way of their doing the best they can. unfortunately for ronnie because of his past...people will blame it on booze....it could be age....it could be that he is not happy...it could be that he is only doing what mick and keith want him to do....and he can't even respond to the vicious comments made about him here and in other places.

you can look at some of my previous posts...concerning ronnie wood. i have always stood up for him as a great guitarist.....his solo stuff is excellent as is the full body of his work with the stones......

but it is sad and at time obvious that there is something wrong on some nights of this tour. yes he is human...but as a professional at his level you just hate to see it....and when you charge what the stones charge for tickets if anything can be done to help remedy things....well then someone should step up and do it.

nice, diplomatic post, Todd. On a side note - diplomacy has no place here! ;-)

I have never considered Ronnie any more of the lead guitarist than Keith. They both have shared the leads over the years. Ronnie gets a real hard time when he screws up a lead but what about Keith? If Ronnie's leads are inconsistent then maybe Keith's are boring? He pulls out that string bender hold for almost every one, half the time it is out of key.

As long as they are out there playing I'm OK with the mistakes. I still can't believe they are all still alive let alone still playing.

If leads HAVE to be analyzed, it should be Ronnie and Keith NOT Ronnie and Mick Taylor. Everyone compares Ronnie of today with Mick T. from 30 years ago.

Keith does screw up once in a while too. Nobody ever said the contrary. But Ronnie screws so often and tries to cover it up by making faces or smiling like a kid. I like Ronnie, I really do, but I don't pay $450+ to see a guy screw-up.
Keith can always cover it up by 2-3 strokes of genius a night. ANd they're always worth the buck.

Todd40fla, thanks for that thoughtful post. if my comment on the word "product" was part of what elicited that expansion on what you meant ... cool, i'm glad.
i love Ronnie dearly too, and fret about him as well - he's got the hardest gig in the business in so many ways, including this climate where so many people are so ready to jump all over him - even saying they feel compelled to do so, as if it were some kind of noble thing to keep unforgivingly tearing away at someone who seems to be running into some rough weather some nights.

sigh: how much do we ever know about what it's costing a performing artist to get up there and do what they do?

... i'm sure someone here knows the details of this story - i don't know when it happened, or where:
Ronnie was in a car accident once, and his leg was broken. he got out of the car to flag down help for the other who were also hurt -
and he got hit by another car, and it broke his other leg.

all kinds of joy and blessings on Ronnie Wood. i love that cat.

"What do you want - what?!"
- Keith

Wow, that's quite a statement.
I know we're in 2006, but I think Mick and Charlie are better than 30 years ago for instance. Not sure about Keith, maybe on some nights. But Ronnie, definitely worse.
