Seems the shows were very inconsistent, some great and some absolutely dreadful. This is just going by the boots I heard, I didn't catch the tour myself.
Its not overrated, its the best tour, and it was a short one!!So much energy in it...if you dont like punk or down and out blues and r&r I understand you go for the 72-73 years...but hell if Im following a boxer...yo do watch a punched out boxer to, if ya love him!!I think the 78 tour..is the best tour there ever was by any band!!!Wish they did more short tours like this...so they can give it all!I mean in long tours Jagger cant bring his all cause the road is long..Me I will party.. and support when the voice is gone!wich happened more than once!!I dont get it man to me the 1978 tour is like a dream!!!
Havo, have you seen the Ft. Worth 78 videos that were recently circulated here? I loved 'em.
While I'm aware that this was an inconsistent tour, we are fortunate that some of the best performances have been captured on boots like "Handsome Girls".
I don't think it's any more overrated or underrated than any other Stones tour.
Well, I never liked the Brian Jones era. The 70's were awfull, and the 80's were dreadfull. Then came the 90's: what were they thinking! The last couple years: worst band in the world.

Let's see:
According to you the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and this new decade the "STONES SUCK"
By these words you prove you are NOT a Rolling Stones fan...

You must be the most ignorant person in this world.

Hey Hog. The 78 Ft worth DVD is very watchable. I think there's athread on it from a couple weeks back. Anyway, here's the BigFrankie review:
1) Let it Rock- out of key sloppy solo by Ronnie, Mick forgets the words to the second verse- Keef looks at him and smiles (it still sounds good) 2) ALl Down The Line (average) 3) Honky Tonk Women ( pretty good) 4) STar Star( Keef screwes up the opening- ok version) 5) Whip COmes DOwn (GREAT- Keef and Ronnie singing into one mic) 6) Beast of Burden (GREAT GREAT GREAT- mick and Keef singing into one mic, Keef and Ronnie are in a ZONE!- GREAT)
The picture is not perfect but very watchable
The second part is interviews with Mic mixed in with short concert bites.
I think it was well worth $17.99.
The only issue I have is it's not the complete show.
In regard to 78 overall. Memphis (I have the complete show "Summer Romance") which I got on vinyl shortly after the show- is one of teh best Stones live shows I ahve ever heard. Some of the others were sloppy- but somehow still very good. If you like Some Girls you liked 78.
don't give me that ole one two, one two three four
Overrated? Like any tour there were some shows that were clunkers. And so it has always been and always will be with this band and any band who goes on and gives it what they have. No horns, Mac and Stew, Keith and Ronnie in great form as a team. This is what Stones fans dreamed about. The tapes don't lie. This tour rocked, pure and simple and I was glad to have have seen them back then even though it was hotter than hell at the Chcago Soldier Field gig.
It was a good tour - not great. Started off very slowly with some crappy shows, then lifted...finally !
It was a scaled-down Tour with no large stage setups and props. Mick was very casual....it's as if the Stones toured for the hell of it and it showed early in the Tour.
78 is not overrated. It was IMO the greatest tour I have ever seen. The Stones rocked so hard. They ..answered the Punk thing so well. I wonder if they ever licked somwething else so good. IMO it was a class act. They came with such a sense of humor and just wiped their collective asses with Punks. And walked away Kings. BTW local27, that shoe throwing pic is not from Cleveland. Was West Coast.
"...no longer shall you trudge 'cross my peaceful mind."
I love the 78 tour. Best of times, worst of times....so they say. I saw the best of times. Van Halen, Doobie Brothers, and 90 minutes of the Stones. I was down front and the sound was great. It was a life changing experience.
