1967-70 and 1970-73 plus 1973-76
and to some extent 1976-79... Well, 1979-82 aint too bad either.
But I´d take 71-74 before 68-71 any day.

Somewhere in the time frame. I'd probably say 70-72, but I'm a youngster of 45!I think 1971 was the single greatest year for music - Sticky, Zep, CCR, Guess Who, solo Beatles, 70's soul, What's Going On?, etc. Good stuff!

Really, any years between Elvis and Village People! 64-66 would have to be up there too, with the Britsh Invasion.

Most are giving the best 4 years and not 3! I'll take 1970-1972.

I think 1986-1989

Cinderella, Ratt, Motley Crue, White Snake, Bon Jovi, The Stones geatest era (Dirty Work,Steel Wheels), Michael Jackson, etc.

Man what an era, kind of blows those other decades away now doesn't it.

71-73

It was so good, you just knew it wasn't going to last.

56-58 - the godfathers - Chuck, Elvis, Buddy, Bo, Richard, Jerry Lee, etc.

65-67 - British Invasion, Motown, Soul, R&B, Beach Boys / California, Garage Bands, early Psychedelia - the three most intense & evolving years of the rock era

68-70 - Stones, Who, Credence, Stones, Stones, Zep, Jeff Beck Group - everyone peaked at once!

71-73 - Stones, Bowie, solo Beatles, Zep, Faces, Dolls - the decadent, @#$%&-up, andogynous years

95-97 - Oasis, Blur, Pulp, Supergrass, Radiohead, Manics, Verve - the Britpop/Cool Brittania Era

And then there was punk & the '80s college/indie scene, too . . .

I've gotta go with 65-67 - the sheer quantity of great music that came out over that three year period is staggering.

most of you guys are cheating - '67-'70 is four years.

If I have to stick with 3 it's '67-'68-'69 without a doubt. Never has popular music shifted so dramatically and fundamentally before or since.

Hey tattered,
I agree with Elmo; coolstory. I'm 47 years wise (well, in my dreams I am) and one of my coworkers was not only at Woodstock, but on the album cover. Your grandma sounds cool. I'm guessing you inherited her kind spirit.

I'd agree with you on that but your omission of the most significant artist from that period is an appalling oversight

after 1964-1966 nothing was ever the same.

gazza, who is the oversight in that post you refer to? Wouldn't the Beatl;es be included in "Brit Invasion?

I'd say two time frames; 1964-66 the British Invasion inception, then 1969-1972, the best of the Stones culminating in Exile's release.
