Four Flicks Olympia, Paris Set List

I just watched this show from the Olympia and apparently watched it with " new eyes and ears" ; this wasn't my first viewing but it felt like it was! The band admitted that they tried extra hard not to screw up because it was a theatre show and it was being filmed but even with that said this show is no doubt one of their ALL TIME BEST SETS, EVER! This version of " No Expectations" was perfect from Ronnie's steel peddle guitar, to Charlie's exceptional drumming, to the sensational vocal, all right on the money. It was a DREAM SET LIST! " Worried About You" was chilling, and DooDoo Heartbreaker roared, as well as the awesome DAnce Part ! and Mick's best ever vocal performance on " That's How Strong My Love Is". It made me sad because I've seen 34 Stones concerts since 1972 and have yet to see them in this kind of intimate venue, and not because I haven't TRIED! Do those folks that were at this show realize how LUCKY they were?? I hope so!

Yes I do! And actually the set list was longer than on Four Flicks, with Rip This Joint and all...

Of course I realize it, it was like having the stones in your own living room, rocking all the night at their best.

I watched that same DVD yesterday for the first time in about a year. You're right, Debra, it was a great setlist, with, in my opinion, one exception. After watching it I wondered why they sing "Love Train". Yes, they sing covers, but why that one? It is so "un-Stones-like". It's not a bad song, and I know it is all a matter of personal taste, but when the Stones play it I always feel it's a waste of a song, given the enormous catalogue of their own songs.

Having said that, I agree, what a great show in Paris.

I totally agree Dave about " Love Train" and when they played it both nights in Philly in September 2002 I couldn't believe it! It was not a song I could get into and as you said, of ALL the covers they could select to remake, WHY THAT!? Other than that, The Olympus show was a killer! Gwen, what other tunes were left out of the dvd ?

I was there, I attended the Bercy show on monday and a friend called me the day of the SDF show, he had 2 tickets and asked me if I was interested. I was crazy !!! I was student at that moment and had a job on july/august, I asked my boss if I could have my friday off and he declined, so I told him I wouldn't be there that day, he was furious smiling smiley
For sure I have no regrets, I couldn't miss this opportunity, it was an awesome show.

- ...Didnt see Lix; but I just listened to Circus Stockholm 2003,
and I´ll be damned if it doesnt sound like it smells funny.

I´d rather not hear the old gems than hearin them with Jagger´s
uptight vocal style as it sounds nowaydays; he´s more fit for the
rock numbers. I may be fried, now, but...

Great show....I just wish the "producers/edit crew" hadn't done such an "MTV-Video" job w/ this DVD....

that is....I wish they had done more "stable" shots w/ less editing and cut-cut-cut-cut and jumping around to different cameras and angles ALL the time....the DVD doesn't capture the "Club Show" experience very well as a result....too over-edited....and it bounces all over the place....more like watching a VIDEO of the Rolling Stones than a "club show" at times....

fewer cameras, less angles, less motion....just point the camera and let the BAND dominate the show....

IMHO....I thought Cirkus Stockholm was a better show....but, I was at that one..in the front row....so, it's not really for me to say....

though, no "JJF" no "Satisfaction" and closing w/ "Sympathy" is pretty sweet for the Stones Fan....

sticky

I was at the Olympia and it's hard to say how much I loved the show.
Still, there was a little something in the air in Munich at the Cirkus Krone that was different. Maybe because this one was a real surprise and because it was the Premiere of Nearness of You.

Both were really great. Better than the Astoria, and better than Vredenburg IMHO

I think that Keith should NOT sing " The Nearness Of You" LIVE but he SHOULD stick with " This Place Is Empty!". I got lucky and he did the two new tunes for the second leg of ABB ( Boston, Jan 13...awesome show, AS TEARS GO BY included!! OH MY GOD!) Happy was nice to hear again too even though his voice has gotten a bit rougher! I happen to like it, it's just that " Nearness" is a tune he just can't deliver, does not hit half of the low notes.

God, I thought he absolutely nailed "Nearness of you" on any show I saw or heard.

as for "thats how strong my love is" - best thing on Four Flicks and on Live Licks too. In fact, it was consistently the best performed song on that entire tour.

Hey there Gazza! Check your email, my man! Unfortunately, of all the shows I did see, I never was lucky enough to hear " That's How Strong" live, EVER! As for " Nearness" it's my opinion that Bernard helps Keith out, ALOT on this one! Keith just can't reach that lower resister! Not sure he ever could; I do love the guitar on this tune, nice and understated, lovely. I just watched the Olympia show AGAIN yesterday so that's why it's fresh in my mind. Were you at the Olympia show?

I like it. However, there are five covers and one worthless song (Dance). With all the Stones original stuff- I'm not sure why they would play these. I'm not complaining- just commentating!!!

don't give me that ole one two, one two three four

no, but I was at Astoria and they did Thats How Strong My Love Is there. It was generally only done at the theatre shows although if my memory serves me well they also did it at one of the shows in both Glasgow and Dublin (I was at both nights in each city)

That's ok Gazza! Just wanted all of the wonderful details of your MSG experience. Man, you saw some awesome shows, and I sure hope that I one day can get to a theatre show where there's less than 2000! Don't you love Keith's new two song set? I do! Much improved! It kills me that after all of the bitching to hear HAPPY, he does it and STILL they BITCH! Give it a rest, I say!
