If you don't play appoggiatura for Mozart's piano works, we can find Rock'n'Roll flavor in them like Jumpin' Jack Flash.
Interesting.

The difference between classic music and other music ain't maybe that big.
It's IMO often more a matter of arrangements than anything else.

One of my best mates, who incidentally, introduced me to the Stones music in 1975 - is now a Mozart obsessive.
For this reason we now call him Mo.

I long ago kicked him out of the inner circle - especially when he turned down a free ticket for Wembley in 1990 - some people are beyond hope.

Give the kid credit...young Wolfie was a pretty prolific composer and, (talking about his generation), died before he got old.

I can assure it is possible to love the Stones and young Maddie equally.

Will the Stones still be remembered in 200 years?

probably not. But then I think that'll be the case with pretty much everyone else anyway

Each succeeding generation seems more clueless and disinterested than the previous one in anything that existed before their own era. That situation is only likely to get worse and not improve

Mozart is my favourite composer (and my musical culture is firstly classical I shall confess). His work is unbelievable!

Actually it's quite clear to me why Mozart is my fav in classical and the stones my favs in rock, and it's for similar reasons in a way. I like purity of form and sobriety of means before all. I like little perfect shapes, the perfection of which never ceases to amaze you, rather than huge creations which astonish you by their mass and overwhelm you.

I like it big too, and I enjoy Beethoven or Malher, but am more intimately and intellectually touched by Mozart, Bartok, Schumann and other miniaturists.

Equally, I like Sam Cooke rather than Otis; James Brown over Funkadelic; and the Stones, infinitely, over, say, Led Zep or Pink Floyd.

The essence of the Stones is all contained in a nutshell such as It's All Over Now.

Keith got me into classical music. I spent all day yesterday listening to Mozart, for his 250th birthday. Lovely stuff!

I just love the fact that people in this forum are so open minded. When I was 17 I went from Chile to see the Stones in Buenos Aires. I bought this magazine, which included an article on Jagger's daily routine while in Buenos Aires. It said -to my amazement- that he rarely listened to pop music at all, but rather the likes of Albinoni, Vivaldi and Cabezón. Whether it was true or not, I don't know. But, funnily enough, it sort of started my acquaintance with classical music: and today I'd say 80% of my record library is composed of classical music. So the Stones not only turned me into jazz and blues, but, incidentally, to classical as well. Anyone here is a Wagner fan?

Nice postin; but God forbid I´d ever be a Wagner fan.
But Albinoni & Vivaldi is great stuff.
I also love Pärt (modern classic), Sibelius, Grieg,
Tjajkovsky, Prokofiev, Haydn. Beethoven has more to discover
than most people have an idea of, too. And Bach rocks!

For Gazza: You said that each succeeding generation semms to be more disinterested in the past. Why are you saying that? What's on your mind? I'm interested to hear more about it!

I know a lot of 20-year-old boys and girls (or men and women) who can't sum up 3 stones songs

I think good ol Gary are basically wrong & ditto right here.
Already the ancient Greeks (Kyriakos ancestors?)
complained about their hopeless youngsters.

Gazza and myself are old geezers now, at least in the passports,
will be forty-bloomin-three years this year.
Incomprehensible (? is there such word?) but a fact.

If young kids turn their backs to rock music, it may have two reasons;
(1) They revolt agains us and (2) It may not have the same relevance to them.

Jazz was the 1920s-30s (and to some extent the 1940s) peoples revolt platform.
Then there was rock. Punk. Grunge. Hiphop. Heavy metal. Etc Etc.

But solid, refined rock'n''roll will always be relevant.
Good pop songs too. Stones have it both.

Ancient Greeks my ancestors? Yes, but among lots and lots of other people too! Many of them not that 'ancient'! It's a question of which past serves better your present or future visions.Regarding the Stones, I think that they were revolting against the 'embodied' past as a scheme of things back then, as much as they are revolting against the notion of how an 'old' man 'should look alike' right now! They are anti-evolutionists in a way! In my eyes they go along circles, not a line.

sixesandsevensandnines,

Der-Ritt-Der-Walkueren (Wagner)
and
Satisfaction (Jagger-Richard)
rocked
APOCALYPSE NOW.

Yes indeed Toru. Incidentally, once I heard that Wagner's music dramas proved some kind of inspiration for the BTB Stage. Funnily enough, those gray curtains they had are pretty much the same colour as the ones they have in Bayreuth. On the programme of that tour Jagger states he wanted to make a sort of "19th Century Opera" out of it: pure wagnerism!

One things for sure, Mozart was a BUSY composer. Can you think of anyone else who cranked out that number of classical pieces ?? They are in the hundreds...

Most of it, in my opinion, is pretty boring dry stuff... There are a few very interesting compositions I've come across, here they are:

Piano Concerto 24 (KV491)... I have this personally rated a 96.0

Andante in C (for Flute)... personal rating is a 94.5

Concerto for Flute, Harp, and Orchestra... rate it a 94.0

Clarinet Concerto... I rate that 93.5

All very engaging and accessible...

Do yourself a big favor and start your Mozart "research" with these pieces. Otherwise you're likely to throw your arms up with the lot of it.

Happy listening.

Wow, Bayou, what a coincidence [SARCASM] that your ratings are exactly the same as those for the only four Mozart songs listed on this website:

Mozart Piano Concerto 24 (KV 491) Piano Concerto 96.0
Mozart Andante in C (for flute) Wind (other) 94.5
Mozart Concerto for Flute Harp & Orchestra Wind (other) 94.0
Mozart Clarinet Concerto Wind (other) 93.5

Is this your website [SARCASM]?

Mozart rocks! Though I'm not hue on his operas - simply cos I really don't like Opera. But his other gear is superb for the most part.

He was the first rock star imo.
A drunk, womanising, partying, arrogant genius that checked out all too early.

Only difference is is that we know where Brian, Jimmy, Jim and so on are buried...

Have you ever lent somebody $20 and never seen them again? It was probably worth it.

Hi 6,7 &9's, while I love Mozart and Beethoven especially, I do have to confess that I love Wagner very much too. I think the fact that he was such a despicable human being causes many foilks to dislike his music. I try not to equate his music with his philosophies and habits. I must say that while I often find him a little heavy handed, I just LOVE most of his musical passages in "Tristan" and the entir "Ring". But my favorite of his works is still "Meistersinger".
I can see how the European community despises him so easily.
