Would you prefer fall tour or new album?
Posted by: nikkibong ()

Fellow fans,

Would you prefer a 'No Security' style America tour after the Europe tour or for the Stones to get back in the studio and crank out a new album instead of touring again? Personally, considering how good they sound on ABB, I'm hoping for a new album. And then no stadium tour; rather a more low-key theater blues-style tour.

i'm hoping they go right back into the studio...hopefully with a load of energy and a sympathetic producer...i know it's been discussed before but it would be nice if they used someone different at this point...just not the dust brothers...i bet ian maclagen would love to play some keyboards on a new album/tour as well...

At this point a new album makes very little sense, giving the lack of success for A Bigger Bang. They might as well do what they do best.....tour.

Tour. Album later...

Why do people think that the whole world is USA's market where the sales are truly poor? If an act sells more than 2 - 2.5 million of copies worldwide nowadays (ABB has sold 2.3m for the time being) then it has clear reasons to make another album. But not immediately, of course (don't get me wrong, i don't mean after 8 years!)

I am totally guilty when it comes to looking at US sales as the standard. Guilty as charged. Of course I, like most of you, cannot get enough of Rolling Stone's product. More albums, more tours, more things from the vaults. What about an updated version of 25x5....I just love that.

I was thinking it must be very frustrating for the Rolling Stones to continue to put out new product which is pretty much ignored by the general public, or at least on the radio. The Stones have not had a hit single in the last 20 years....Harlem Shuffle was the last to make any impact on the charts.

not true - Mixed Emotions went to number 5 on the US chart. love is strong was a minor success as well.

Fall Tour over new album. A new single would be cool however....

What is a "No Security style tour"? What was different about that tour?

I don't think they expect to have smash hit singles at this point. They have a large hardcore fan base, which grows slowly as new fans get turned on... but there's a huge back catalogue to sell to new fans.

A short tour of only arenas, a few months after a stadium tour.

I'd take the fall tour because I don't think adding 1-2 extra months onto the tour makes any difference as to when or if the Stones go back into the studio. All this extra month or 2 would do is cut into the Stones' vacation time that they have between projects.

If they stick to how they've been doing things for the past 25 years, the next tour would start in the fall, which would mean fall 2008 at the earliest. I would expect them to take off a year or so before starting any new recording, so most or all of 2007 will probably be down time.

Don Was told me this past June that he expects more recordings or songs from the 2002 Paris sessions to be released eventually, so perhaps the band will revisit these for their next album, giving them a bit of a jump start on the project.

New Album.

(Would you prefer Picasso to paint a new picture or to copy an old one in front of
the masses?)

But the album, "Dirty Work", had sold worldwide less than any Stones studio record since then, including ABB. And 80s were not the years of the downloading, of course. Undercover and DW have sold approximately 2 million units each one worldwide despite the two hits (Undercover On The Night and Harlem Shuffle). Voodoo Lounge has sold 5.5 million copies without making any impact on the single charts.

Think about it. A hit single doesn't mean a lot when we are talking about a rock band.

I would prefer a new album. I love the Stones but it doesn't really matter me if they tour or not.

I stand corrected about Mixed Emotions......the Stones would love a hit single...may no mistake about it. They have had many songs worthy of hit status...it just hasn't happened.

I REALLY want a live album from this tour, assuming, of course, that they take the time to edit any mistakes and do alot of studio overdubs!

But again, all of the stuff you mentioned is far more ignored in the US than elsewhere. I lived in Europe when Anybody Seen My Baby came out, and it was played. Even I, who never listens to radio, managed to keep hearing it everywhere.

That said, I don't see a new album anytime soon.
