No doubt MT was great - and put his stamp on classic stones stuff during that window - but much like a Jimi Hendrix, the legacy far exceeds probably what they would be doing in the same genre these many years later - that window that everyone keeps staring at was short & small and lent itself to greatness for whatever reason - talent, timing, cut short. . . . . .but hard to quantify. Definately MT's stuff rocks then. . .so did Jimi's - we'll never know if it would have kept on at that level. . . maybe, maybe not. Who knows? Only the good die young. . . .

I happen to be in the camp that loves MT on those early 70's stones classics - still loving that sound after all these years. . . .but loved the early stuff, and later stuff. . . .it's part of the evolution of the stones, cool. The stones are bigger than one member of the band and they've proven that, but. . .yes, MT's stuff was wonderful.

Time Waits for No One. . . .and it won't wait for me. . . . .(great lyric)

MT was the best pure musician the Stones have ever employed. that's prolly the reason his name comes up so frequently.

perfect point - he was the best pure musician but he was also an employee only - not a real Stone and not a rock'n'roller, at least not in this life.

I'm not being a stick in the mud but how many times does the same subject have to be repeated?
Mt was great, no doubt there but he left over 30 bloomin years ago!!!
It does become very tedious.......

He's great but he's not coming back.
The great missed opportunity, was Astoria club show '03.

Yeah - Tat we've heard of him

not even close to Taylor in musical ability!!!

Here's hoping that the Stones invite Taylor & Wyman to a (1) show reunion
in England when the Tour reaches there!!! and Video that one!!!

Play music from the 70's albums!!! Sticky Fingers, Exile, Goats Head Soup!!

The MT thing is so over the top, he made a contribution, but the records he was on would anyway have been made, with or without him. There were plenty of other players around as good as him at the time who would have jumped to play with the Stones. The influence of Ry Cooder and Gram Parsons on the classic Stones sound was in my opinion as important as Taylors. Its a joke that people still go on about this 30 years later. Its also a bit insulting to Keith who was always very gracious about MT but whose guitar work is far far more important. The Stones ARE Keiths riffs on JJF,SFM,BS,HTW, this is the soul of the band.

I agree, Taylor just plays good solos but compared to great songwriting it just is not that important, there are hundreds of guys who can play great guitar very few who can write clssic songs as Keith can.

I assume you're joking, here, riff...

Regarding comparisons with BJ - BJ was a yeoman performer on many instruments, but master of none. MT's prowess on the axe is beyond comparison.

guitarists are a dime a dozen.......the Taylor era was definitely the peak of the Stones live and studio powers........because he was in the right place at the right time.......his live playing definitely lifted the Stones sonically.....but when i think of their studio work it's the Mick & Keith show.......the Let It Bleed lp for example....Keith all the way.......nothing against Mick T. (my favorite Stones period) but the obsession with him is overrated imo

Let It Bleed lp was barely including MT - maximum a few overdubs ....

The first record with MT was Sticky Fingers.... - where you also very well can hear his influence....

exactly.....they were fine in the studio without him........their best lp imo........and Sticky...again...the Mick & Keith show....Taylor = right place, right time

You guys can say all you weant about: right place - right time
or it's all Jagger/Richards, or any guitarists could have done it....

bullshit!!!!

I was there and I know, it was a "perfect" match - at the time.

And only a perfect match could have produced what you hear from the 70's

Taylor deserves much more credit than you Jagger/Richards Ass-Kissers
and willing to give!!!

Some of us know the truth!!! Keith & MJ sure as hell do...

Taylor, right place, right time...taylor is no rock and roller... What about "don't lie to me", "let it rock" etc... Aren't they better than any of the actual rock and roll tunes that the stones play?. Taylor made also great contributions to some mayal albums (eg., bare wires) so maybe it wasn't only the moment of mick and keith, but also the moment of taylor, so the three were neccesary to make the best albums.

If you want to change the subject, don't read it. It's easy if you try

"Beggar's Banquet and Let It Bleed (where's Mick T.?)"

Just to repeat myself....

MT was not in the band when BB was done (BJ was absent) / LIB - the record was basically done when MT entered the band.....

you missed the point country honk.....no shit, Mick T. not in the Stones during BB?....thanks for enlightening us........my point: Beggar's & Let It Bleed = great Stones lps without Mick T.

There are many great stones withoug MT, but, in my opinion, you can't compare them with sticky, exile, goats and it's only rnr. Begars is great too, but it's musically very different from the other four, and that is one of the good things of the stones. They have done so many different things, and addpated to different times, and musicians, and there is where taylor has relevance: he was imprescindible for the obtained sound in those four albums. And without them the stones will not be the actual ones, although they will still be great!

OK Leonard & Honk - BB & Let it Bleed - very good work's BUT

Sticky Fingers, Exile on Main Street and the Greatest Live Album EVER YA's YA's

and everyone in my circles back in the 70's was talkin: TAYLOR

what a musician!! -

Even Stevie Wonder's backup band of Black top notch musicians, when they toured
with the Stones in 1972, they thought who were these white boys thinking they
could play the Blues, and the one member of the band that impressed them the most: TAYLOR
