Biggest Scam
Posted by: drbryant ()

Aside from the ticket prices, what seems to be the biggest scam of the tour? The wine bottles are a good bet, but my vote goes to the flickering tongue badges. 10 bucks, every chick seems to want one, and I am sure it never gets used again.

there must be bloody millions, of sock/underwear drawers, all around the world,
with broken/unused flashing tongue badges, stuffed, at the back of them.

The imaginary $50 club show tickets.

Being an American Express card holder and getting access to presale tickets in advance of paid up fan club members

Rs.com must rate pretty highly in the scam league.

Well after you've paid $454 plus charges for a N American show, $10 for a flashing tongue badge doesn't actually seem too bad; certainly not as compared to yet another invariably shite T shirt for a far more outrageous $30 or more. The flashing tongue badges and items like key rings/fobs are about the only things I do pick up at Stones shows to be honest; cheap, relatively discreet and about ther best there is out of all the rest of the merchandise rubbish. I did pick up one of those Twickenham rugby shirts in 2003, and that's the first item of "clothing" I've bought in ages, apart from the Brixton and Shepherds bush T shirts in '95 and '99. Those were kind of an exception, even though at the end of the day they are jusy yet more shite T-shirts.

I agree that in terms of scale, the ticket prices, and the rs.com memberships are huge. Maybe there aren't as many idiots who paid $100 for the platinum memberships, and the DVD will becomee a huge collectors item . . . .

What exactly is on these rs.com DVDs ?
Can anyone tell me about the content ?

The "A Bigger Boxer Shorts" underwear. Very lackluster graphic design on them imo. Who wants an exploding tongue on their fruit of the looms anyways?! Sheesh! Just kidding! lol grinning smiley Probably those tongue logo pins that flicker.

Paying $100 for the RS membership and then not having access to decent seats during the presale.
I went to several shows and the general public seats were always better than the presale seats.
I don't care about the poster or the DVD.
I paid the extra $100 expecting access to decent presale seats.
Didn't happen.
Never again.

Well, the chicks might use the flickering tongues for...

Ooops, that's another thread...

The flickering tongues were around during the Licks tour. So my number one is the Onstage Seating. It was an onstage Balcony seat.

How did the On-stage thing go? If I had already bought a ticket, would I have to pay more to get the On-stage thing...or was it a ticket upgrade/exchange?

the worst is having to pay for parking.....
the 2nd biggest ripoff is the back up bands. i missed them every tour...

the poster is boring but the dvd is cool....has some nice live cuts a lot of interviews with the boys. i'm very happy with it...i too joined to get better seats.....i did get great seats. and i got the poster, and a very cool dvd..so i got much more than i had hoped for...again, you will enjoy the dvd, much much better than i dreamed of...you would buy it all on its own...

Hey MT,

The Burger King cups with all the band members on them were kinda of cheesy. And the Keith decoder ring I got didn't work!

These guys keep trying to outdo themselves. First came the special edition CD so that you buy 2 copies of the CD. Now, there is the new edition of the tour program. The question is, which is a bigger scam (i) the new version of the program, which forces you to buy a second program; or (ii) the first version, which contained a bunch of Licks-era photos?

"The Uptown Edition is a bigger, bolder version of the Bigger Bang Tour Program many of you already know and love. Working closely with the band, designer David Costa has added more than 20 new pages of previously unseen photos from the current world tour and removed the ads that were in the original. This new single print, limited edition version has been expanded to 80 oversized pages and is bound in a hard cover that includes a lenticular motion tongue; this may be the StonesĀEfirst lenticular motion since the cover of Their Satanic Majesties Request."

Honestly, I think the biggest scam may very well be the On Stage seats from what someone posted awhile back and from what I've seen in Toronto. I was sitting comfortably in my nosebleed seats and thought "those poor people" as I watched them watching the back of the Stones' heads! That can't be fun!

Sad to say the whole tour appears to have been designed to pad their retirement funds in the twilight years of their career. I am embarrassed for them every time I get an email from RS.com flogging some other stupid item. The latest is a new version of the program. Let's see: wine, Pumpkin and turkey T shirts, what other stupid things have they tried to sell me.

They have probably made more billions in the last 16 years than they did during their peak musical period.
