Yeah, I have this. Haven't listened to it in a while.

Back in the early 90's a bunch of British bands all did different versions of it. I think proceeds went to a homeless fund in England. I have a cassette copy of it.

the project was called "Putting Our House In Order" and consisted of 3 singles released in different formats, CD, cassette and vinyl.

Each release consisted of 3-4 different acts performing "Gimme Shelter" (so, there were about 10-12 different versions). The Stones' version (recorded in Clemson on the Steel Wheels tour) appeared on the cassette single.

Yeah Gazza, you're right. I just noticed that there were 4 other versions on this cassette that I didn't list above.

There are also versions by Kingmaker, Thunder, Blue Pearl & the Stones live.
Mine doesn't have that title, mine looks like a bootleg actually. All mine says that it was copied at Abbey Road studios back in 93, with a little cartoon pic of the crosswalk (prior to them zig-zagging it).

Have to admit, I don't really know who any of these bands are.
