Very nice, thx for upping, but what happened to Charlie at the start of GS? It takes him ages to find the right beat, the rest of the band keeps ploughing on & you can hear Charlie holding back every so often, trying to figure out what's happening then coming in again but still not getting it. You can hear him pause after the first verse, Keith must have been glaring at him, & he finally gets it when Mick launches into the verse, 2 minutes into the song!

Charlie probably could not hear himslef or the other guys. Those monitors were small. Some of those 73 Austarlian gigs were played in (by today's standards) laughable surroundings. There is one outdoor gig they do in the daytime under some small tarp on what looks like the back of a Turnip cart. It is the one where you see Stan Moore sitting off to the side of the stage, pounding his big beefcake hands on his thighs. I LOVE the way he looks over there. Watching out over his little chickadees. "Them's mah boyz playin d blooz in 'stralia.."

sometimes I see photos from gigs in '70, Scandinavia e.g, or essen and the stage is tiny. Those are some of my fave pics. They look real tangible, not so removed. Now that is a stage I can identify with. What says so much about the Stnes is to see this setting, know what the small PA was limited by, see the Armstrong straight into the boomy Ampeg and know that this is a relativelt difficult sound to work with. The ONLY way you're going to make it sound good is to really have chops. You better be good, and have a set of cojones like Keith .
