Gazza, is that a Chuck Berry cover?

"You Can't Catch Me" is indeed a Chuck Berry cover. (Stephen Stills does a nice acoustic version paired with "Crossroads" on his 1975 "Stills Live" album.) Definitely one of the greats--right up there with the more well-known "Time Is On My Side" or "Little Red Rooster" in that period...

All and all, I'd take "Mona," though. God, how I wish the Stones would do more Bo Diddley covers.

"Love In Vain" is the song that made me a Stones freak, but "Stop Breaking Down" is pretty tough to beat for raw intensity.

That's three covers in my top ten. I'm beginning to feel disloyal. "Moonlight Mile" would never, ever be out of my top ten.

"JJF" and "HTW" would have to be in my top ten, but I'm not sure that "Brown Sugar" would be. "IORR" certainly would not be--can't figure out why it is now so sacrosanct.

Yeah, what you said. If there's any band who's been on their own, hell, since the mid-70s, it's them.

And his singing is just fine. EVERY time someone dares to cover a classic, the standard put-down is that they are not getting the "anger" or the "angst" or the "despair" of the original. Hell just sing it the way you want to, it's a *cover* after all.

It's interesting...some of the responses I've gotten since I posted this. I don't consider Moonlight Mile, Memory Motel, Bitch, She's a Rainbow, Whip, or Salt to be unusual choices, but we all have our own perceptions, I guess.

Thanks. Like Mona too. I remember the first time I saw Springsteen (76, Born to Run Tour), he played Not Fade Away into Mona into She's the One, with Mighty Max pounding out that Bo Diddley beat the whole time.

I've always liked that one and always thought if they ever do a farewell tour that should be the last song they ever play. "You can't catch me, 'cause if you get too close I'm gone like a cool breeze." Then BAM!, a nice big explosion, the lights go out, and when they come back on the Stones are GONE. Until they come out for a final bow. Might be a nice way to go out!

Unusual songs? It's hard to say what is unusual. My top three favorites of all-time could be considered unusual, I suppose:

1. Rip This Joint
2. She's So Cold
3. Rocks Off

Are these songs really on your "Personal Top 10 Stones songs list ??" I mean there's a bunch of "hidden gems" on these lists, but I really doubt most of these songs are truly on the posters top 10.
