Wow ! 50plus shows April - August 2025 in small venues

Paul Simon, 83, is coming out of retirement for an intimate U.S. tour.

The singer, who initially retired in 2018, shared a post to Instagram on Tuesday to announce his 2025 tour of the States,

Paul Simon in Concert: A Quiet Celebration.

His post included a list of the tour dates, with the caption noting that tickets would go on sale on Friday, February 21 on his website.

“The Sound of Silence” singer will begin his tour in April, with two nights at the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans, Louisiana. The following three shows will be in Austin, Texas at the Bass Concert Hall. Some of the other cities he’ll be visiting are Kansas City, Nashville, Boston, New York City, and Los Angeles.

His final three shows of this tour will be on July 31, August 2, and August 3, and they’ll all be held at Benaroya Hall in Seattle, Washington.

I hope the prices aren't way, way out of my league. I can hope can't I?

OMG! I just looked up seats for the Los Angeles shows. 710$ for the furthest seats from the stage! Over a thousand for a decent seat! That's obscene. And his voice is not as strong as it was! F this, and F the price gougers.

Saw him on his farewell tour 2018 in Vancouver, now he's coming back again! Orpheum is a nice venue for concerts, holds maybe 2500.

Floor seats for The Orpheum in Vancouver are $340 cad, $200 for balcony. Hard pass.

That's published already?

Yeah, I'll pass if that's the case. Saw him in 88 I think, Rhythm of the Saints tour. That was really good.

Come on Paul what's wrong with you? You just sold your catalogue and made $250 million. Why do this to your fans?

It has to be worthwhile to bother. And it's what you get for paying a monthly fee to access millions of songs vs supporting an artist paying for an album.

Hence the $$$.

Pay or don't.

It's Paul Simon.

There's the aspect of 1960s artists getting to that "too old" part now. Stones, McCartney, Ringo... the end is very near. They're gonna make that money! There's no sanity involved - it's privilege!

Why would anyone be shocked?

No one wants to buy a CD for $15 anymore - way cheaper than vinyl! Oh... pay $15 a month and stream it! In two weeks you won't remember it anyway.

Absolutely bizarre.

If the Stones keep going for 10 more years (hopefully not, that would be ridiculous) nosebleeds will be $500.

Why do you think Taylor Swift made over $2 billion on her 2023-24 tour? She's not stupid: streaming doesn't pay.

Paul Simon, the Stones, McCartney - they have the library already there. Swift has created it (in much shorter time) and added to it in the middle of a tour: the record label can deal with those numbers $ wise, she was pulling in $12 million a night or whatever.

Yeah yeah the Stones made more per show than she did - in the United States for 14 shows or whatever. So what. That doesn't matter except for the people that are raging about how the Stones have low Spotify numbers: The Rolling Stones don't care.

Saw him on the last Simon & Garfunkel tour, I'm good.

Thought he had similar issues as McCartney at the SNL show.

Hey, I'm not going to knock anybody who can write, sing, play multiple instruments, so good for her.

And maybe it's just because I'm 60, but I can only name 1 of her songs and that's only because my kid's high school marching band used to play it as a warm-up to performing in competitions.

I see the 3 Vancouver shows are pretty much sold out except for seats near the front that are $339. Lots of resales showing so I'm sure those that bought hoping to flip them and make decent money might be in for a shock, hopefully.

Were the nosebleeds decently priced? I may have made a play for a pair but I was in a meeting.

10 am start time for ticket sales is brutal!

nosebleeds were 65-85 before fees. I snagged one for 85, shockingly, after being about 4000 in line for a 2500 seat venue.

About 1/2 of the main floor seats in Chicago for each show were originally VIP at exorbitant prices. There are still many in the front half, but they are now “reduced” down to $285 + garbage fees.

I’ve always been a fan, and particularly like Seven Psalms. I know his voice is not what it was - and I wonder if he’s booked too many dates too close together - but I will go and see the show. This will be the 9th time for me since 1976.

I agree 1000%, and I am just as upset. Common thoughts expressed by me and others in the OT: Paul McCartney thread, even before Simon made this announcement. Honestly, this is unreal. Once you start charging prices like this, I start seeing through the hypocrisy and I become more critical (and less adoring) of an aging, declining giant like Simon.

No thanks. I will stay home, hold onto my dwindling coffers, and call out the painful truth. I have great memories of seeing Paul Simon at very historical concerts. However, especially after SNL 50, I am not just going to stay home, I am also going to get angry enough to post like this.

In a nod to our beloved Rolling Stones, I repeat what I posted in the McCartney thread:

"Remember a young Charlie Watts thinking that maybe the Stones would get to an age where they "might look pretty silly up there?" Approaching the 50th anniversary of my first Stones show, there were times when they were in top form and other times when they were not. But I can honestly say that I have never seen the Stones look silly, or old, or embarrassing to themselves or their families or their fans. When I do, that's when I will stop going to see them."

That's why the Stones will continue to get my money. In addition to no diminishment in their energy or skills, they would never pull a bald-faced stunt like this.
