Ha-ha! Quite right!

I reckon he has a fair bit of nostalgia for his English upbringing. I'd like to think so, anyway.

well he did do a documentary about his early years that's just dripping with nostalgia

so i would say that's a reasonable thing to think

Keith Richards sleep at nights, even if he used to be a night owl. At his age, he does not drink or smoke much. Back in 2012, he had a Heineken or two, not much Jack Daniels, so things do change. I remember the Europan tour that ended with Zurich (2003). He pulled a cigarette and lighed it, then threw it away, before doing his own set. After the show many said "Keith was smoking all the time". That is called "image". He did not smoke one cigarette for two hours.

He do need security to move around. He live in the Carribean, Connecticut and other places through the year. He has got a large library. He is a grandfather, happily married. May be regular, may be not. Being happy is of cource a success story.

He is not like you and me, except for the fact that he lives a normal, still secure life, when he is not on tour, or he is not recording new songs.

You do not make it past 80 years old without taking care of your health.

That is true, bv, but it is surely inarguable that Keith was pretty darn unhealthy for many years. It is certainly true, however, that he has turned a corner, so to speak. He's looking the healthiest he has in years, in my opinion. Going by the published images we've all seen, he has a definite sheen and radiance that was absent a decade ago. He looks great!

Well it depends on how you define "ordinary". Personally I'm of the opinion that the vast majority of celebs are just like everyone else in most aspects. Under all the wealth, fame, and possible artistic ability they often want the same as everyone else, good relationships, good health, to have fun, be productive, lone time sometimes, etc

As far as how genuine Keith's image as an "every man" from Dartford, I'd say some of it is probably true, other parts not at all. For example he clearly does stuff that the every man could in no way afford, but at the same time he does seem to have some pretty standard 40s born male values.

It's a pointless discussion in many ways because most of we can know very little about what Keith is like in his everyday life.

But, from what we do see and hear these days, after decades of global superstardom and, errm, a "very interesting" life ...he does come over as a pretty well balanced and "normal" guy.

Still a bit of a "gobshite" on occasion ...but he's mellowed grinning smiley

Isn't that what we love about Keith though, he's so inappropriate. smoking smiley

Like many celebs I think Keith likes to keep some privacy about himself. To be honest while I like to see him as a Rock God I'm pretty sure he loves being somewhat normal by indulging in pruning lemon trees, reading books and being surrounded by Family. I think that's what he prefers to do these days. I wouldn't blame him either. On the other hand if he wants to continue being Keef Riff Hard I'm right there.

Surely the most unordinary thing about Keith is his constitution! Sure, he didn't necessarily abuse his body as much as the myths would have us believe but still...aside from that he's an ordinary person who's been living in extraordinary circumstances since his late teens.

He strikes me as a basically ordinary bloke (from what I've heard from him, a bit more esoteric than most people I meet (or have heard speak) - which imo is a good thing) but with a great artistic talent rather than 'fairly talented' which is pretty much the norm even if you're just on the level of fixing cars..(or something)..

Compared with say, a greatly talented surgeon, for example, Keith has an advantage, the zenith of the expression of his talent is loud.

Just my opinion of course.

Truly do not know him, but in his old age he seems to be a more "ordinary" kind of man than the likes of Madonna, Michael Jackson or many other entertainment superstars.

They (Stones) all do.

And a big plus is no plastic surgery!

In my mind I guess I contrast him to Mick who seems quite the jet setter, Keith being more of a homebody family man. Now splitting winters and summers between a large complex in CT and a beautiful beach home in Turks & Cacos is anything but ordinary of course.

Keith is like a superhero; he is mr Richards then he becomes Mr. Keef. Part Pirate/outlaw/mafia that persona he created and that he lived is one of his great creations. But sometimes I feel that Johnny Thunders was authentically the true Keef.

I'm blessed to count as a true friend my mate Alan Clayton. Alan fronts a legendary London band called The Dirty Strangers and has been Keith's best friend for forty years. Alan was once asked what he's learned from Keith after forty years of friendship. Alan's answer: "Humility".

Well, that may be true. The teeth aren’t his own, though!

It does not surprise me.

From my own experience, you cannot become one of the best in your field without having some sort of humility (and I'm not talking about myself). The one that makes you continually progress, having analysis and introspection.

You can be proud of your career but it should not stop you from being humble.

His life may be in a better place because he moved out of Ocho Rios, JA in the Caribbean to Parrot Cay, previously known as Pirate Cay, in the Turks & Caicos.

While he loves his family and pets, he's anything but ORDINARY!

Well, if you define ordinary as not conceited, not placing yourself above everyone else, or humble, he is ordinary. But if ordinary to you means average, just run of the mill, without high achievement, he is certainly not ordinary.

When you snap your fingers for a limo to NYS have a security detail around you all the time. A warehouse full of guitars. You are not ordinary guy.

A warehouse full of guitars, yeah. He may ‘like’ security - I have no idea -, but he certainly doesn’t need it. He’s not exactly Justin Bieber or Drake in the popularity stakes, is he? Mobs of fans? I don’t think so. I’m not sure about the ‘snapping your fingers’ for a limo, either. He can afford them, but in terms of his recognition? I guess it would depend on the limo driver and whether they’d stop for an elderly gentleman in sunglasses. They may him just ‘odd’ and drive on.

Keith has been famous for almost his whole life. When the Stones shot to stardom he was barely an adult. He doesn’t know what an ordinary life as we know it is.
