Linda Ronstadt's "Tumbling Dice"
Posted by: Elmo Lewis ()

Listened to this today - it's on the "FM" movie soundtrack - great guitar sound for a live recording. Linda really sounds sexy. She either changes or doesn't know the words. I like it very much. Any thoughts?

P. S. Waddy plays on this track.

always impressed me too - Linda can rock when she's in the mood.

I remember reading in Mick's unauthorized bio that he met Linda Ronstadt and told her she should do more rock numbers. She said she liked Tumbling Dice but couldn't understand the words, so Mick wrote them down for her. Either he didn't remember them right or she changed them when she did the song. The book goes on to say that Mick had an on again off again affair with her for a while. Lucky bastard!

Is their a boot when she sang TD with the Stones in 78? if so, any good? I agree with you guys I am not a big fan of her's but she did a great job with this cover.

Probably none that we'd be interested in. Ronstadt hagged out decades ago, but Jagger can continue nailing younger nubile models well into his 80's.

Waddy plays a vicous yet melodic slide guitar solo on this version of Tumbling Dice. I haven't heard it in some time so I need to pick it up. Another killer Waddy/Linda collaboration was their version of "Poor, Poor Pitful Me." Killer guitar on that track! As to Mick' sfemale collaborators whom he hasn't shagged I cannot say. By the way, wasn't "Memory Motel" written about Linda?

Geez, if true, you've just ruined the song for me....ugh

Jagger wouldn't touch that hag with a 10-ft. pole today.

For what it's worth, Linda has a cool, unassuming home in Arizona where she raises her son in an unspoiled fashion..not like a rock star or former rock star's kid. I like that. And she has a Robery Henri original...good taste...

gut, calm down already.

Her version is not bad. The band certainly sounds better than the '81 stones. Maybe other years as well.

cc, I don't claim to not like her version, just her, thats all. She was once hot....30 years ago....In old age she went downhillllllllllllll......

Actually her version of "Tumbling Dice" was pretty well polished and more commercial than the Stones....incredibly, I think I may even prefer her version to the original.

I saw Linda at the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, N.J. several times in the 70's.
One night she wore a "brownie outfit- a younger version of the Girl Scout uniform, complete with brown knee high socks...I still see her in that outfit in my dreams. She was to die for.

Yeah, gut, Linda needs to talk to Kirstie Alley about a diet plan, but she sure sounds good (and really looked it in the day). She was also a girlfriend of J. D. Souther in the 70's.

We saw her a couple times during the 70's. What a tremendous voice! There are a few good boots in circulation too. Also a King Biscuit recording (EX+).
