Whereas the WayBackMachien in no way could serve as a backup for Nico's database, it is very satisfying to be informed, that Nico will have his site and data again up and running.

I was already thinking about of asking him if he need any help I maybe could provide. I really don't like data loss - much more so, if this happens to data of this fine band! grinning smiley

I should add: it is my understanding that those who wish to use his website will have to register (for free), once it is back up and running.

Along with Bjornulf Vik for running IORR, Nico Zentgraf deserves a medal for his years of dedication to his wonderful Complete Works website.

I have often thought there should be a Rolling Stones Hall of Fame, which in my opinion should include Bjornulf, Nico and a few others for improving Stones fans knowledge and enjoyment in regards to the Stones.

"Thanks for all your nice mails and messages. So many supporters, friends and fans out there - this site is for you! But there's also a variety of stealers and greeders out there. I don't want to go too much in detail (yet), but if this site will ongoingly be considered as public domain I will take it down again (or install that friggin' login for just a few of you). Asking for permission if you take bigger portions and giving credit if you take an entry should be the minimum (for my free work). Just because it's on the internet doesn't mean it's not copyrighted. If in doubt, ask your dealer... " - [www.NZentgraf.de] .

Great news !!!

Re: Stonesnews.com website status

Status of the former website [Stonesnews.com] :

Many Stones fans knew the news site Stonesnews.com and its editor Johannes who was the member waterrats here on IORR.

Because there were no posts from him since some time and since Stonesnews.com is now offline, I've contacted his sister who owns in Germany the 'Webdesign Manufaktur Köln' and she wrote me that her brother suddenly passed away unexpectedly at the end of January 2025. Due to technical and legal issues, the website had to be shut down without a farewell notice.

Rest in Peace, Johannes/waterrats (1960-2025) and THANK YOU for all the Stones news. May the good Lord shine a light on you!

That is very sad news. I remember him as a very active guy on IORR, and a very nice one. Even though I've never met him I've always enjoyed his posts. May he rest in peace, and a huge thank you for all the good work. My thoughts are with his family and friends.

What you express is becoming "normal" unfortunately. Some people die, some people don't...

We'll (mostly) all be too old one day, hopefully, and iorr.org will be a hilarious memory.

Johannes (waterrats on IORR) was born in 1960. Here's something about him (in German): [Web-Manufaktur-Koeln.de] . For condolences see the thread here: [iorr.org] .

regarding Nico's site

what's the point of putting anything on www when you know beforehead that it would be "stolen" in one way or another?? words and pics are very easy to copy. why sharing any info at all? btw, anyone who downloads bootlegs from iorr, doesn't he "steal" from someyone else, anyway??...lol... you give something to people for free, and then you ask them not to do certain things to what you've given 'em. this is not about sharing,---- btw Nico uses (look, i don't use the word "steals") some info on his site that might've been taken from anywhere else, it's inevitable,,, we don't live in remote deserts

Re: Nico web site status

you know, when i am getting to know about a certain show by say, MT, from Nicos site, and then i look for this show via www and i find it on YT and i watch it and am enjoying it, doesnt it implicate that i stole this recording from MT or its taper , or Nico himself??

from what i know, Nico's trying to punish "stealers"... but then again, after that happens, nobody could see his hard work anymore and estimate it as a huge contribution to the Stones world,,, we are all fans innt it... so when he puts his site on his hdd to be stored there permanently, he loses the awe of thankfullness many fans may feel for him.. and makes his hard work useless

Create content with some effort, post it here and then suddenly find it on other people's websites or in social media without citing the source. Then you know what it feels like to be stolen from.

as i said, this is inevitable, especially talkin' 'bout quality content. people won't steal crap for their own sake.

btw, i myself have a blog for 15+ years and thru the years people stole a helluva lot from me without any citing... not only on www, but paper stuff also....so friggin' what, long ago i decided that i am not going to stop doing what i love the most, otherwise i'll crack. so i would do it for "the love of art", for my own pleasure and... for a few people who cares a damn little

Okay, it's then a question of your personal view on the matter. There're people who want thousands of dollars for their software - and then there're people who program open-source software for free, which can be freely shared (and forked).

It's even worse when you find that someone takes all your content and publishes it in a printed book through a well-known publisher to make money from it without giving proper credit or credit at all.

Nico lists all sources that he used for his findings and just expects that from the people, that use his works, as well. The discussion in this thread was very enlightening for getting to know, how people here see his work.

If someone uses and makes a profit from content created by others without permission of the author, its called plagiarism. Plagiarist can be sued in almost all countries around the world.

to sue a plagiarist legally, that usually takes much more effort and expenses than to maintain a non-profit fan site

Maybe you don't care if people take your content and make money off of it. Others do not like it and change their behavior to make it stop. Not much different from tapers posting recordings and having some asshat remaster and/or sell their works because they can. So, what happens? Those who want the content lose out and others get on their soapbox saying once you make it available it is now "open source".

from what i see, it all goes back to the question of "to share or not to share".

remember Brian and Mick Taylor not receiving some songwriting credit they deserved, too....
