just fantasic quiting drinking and smoking were the best decisions he's made in a long time

Yep! I’m glad he quit the ciggies; glad he’s ‘cut-back’ on alcohol; I’m sure he’s said he still has wine with meals, somewhere.

However, backstage at a Stones show, these day’s, must be akin to having afternoon tea with your parish reverend!

Very surprised nobody has posted this yet, made headlines everywhere. He surprised everything, even the band he played with.

Made headlines "everywhere"?

No it didn't.

You think so ? Really ?

We're obviously hearing different things. To me, he sounds perilously close to being out of tune !

You've obviously been hearing things out of tune your entire life!

Well, very often it has been, you are absolutely correct ! grinning smiley

Still love him though, but for me he's the rhythm king. With the exception of some occasional fills here and there, Keith and lead ? Forget it !

I had my doubts too on the first listen, Pauly. The second video posted puts the solo in context, including the chord sequence, which Keith is actually following. I thought his overall performance - including his vocals - was delivered with confidence and aplomb. He seemed to be enjoying himself immensely, as did the band. I've seen Emmylou smile more, but she does tend to favou

Sorry, posted prematurely. Just wanted to say that Emmylou favours tighter and well-rehearsed arrangements. Oh, and, of course, Keith's onstage guitar sounds was too loud!

I meant it made headlines after it happened and it took a while for it to get posted here, which is a surprise. I even saw my local news mention this mentioning Keith before even saying what happened at the event.

It sure did! Hey do a google search for Keith or country hall of fame and so many articles come up. Pretty cool Keith still has the appeal.

A lot of feeling, he looks in good shape.

He's never going to get old is he, like me a Peter Pan reality if you connect to it.

He's in tune. What isn't happening is Keith following the song structure, so he goes out of key, hence your idea of "perilously close to being out of tune".

I think you're missing the point a bit Al.

...It's not about remembering those licks, which most of us could probably play when we were 15

..It's about Keith Richards still delivering seat of the pants Rock n Roll with attitude, in that unique way that made us all fall in love with it in the first place.

I think his relationship and access to Steve Jordan is a positive influence for Keith. No swipe on Charlie, as he was amazing and we’re not here without him, but being able to have Steve step into Charlie’s shoes, and likely the positive influence on his life Patti brings, seems to be paying dividends as Keith keeps rolling on.

It also helps when your main business partner hasn’t missed a beat either, so the motivation to keep up is ever present.

The perfect storm.

A great post, spud. Yes, I do concede that I somewhat missed the point. In fact, I had, at the point of posting my sarcastic comment, not heard the full solo and evaluated it in the full context of the performance. Yes, it’s a-typical Keith; but it’s an 80-year-old Keith at his present-day best, in my opinion. Very enjoyable!

Edit: I incorrectly referred to spud as ‘stud’

Great post MizzAmandaJonez. I always thought The Rolling Stones are a perfect storm, their storied history can't be anything else.

All is forgiven Sir Keith ! With the benefit of a longer clip (i.e. the full song), I would have to say that his rhythm playing is as wonderful as ever !
